Patented Optigrip® coating is a result of long-term product development and thousands of kilometres of testing on skis. It is incredibly durable and its function will be guaranteed to last for minimum 2 000 kilometres.

Yoko Optigrip® skis are easy to store, handle and transport, much because no kickwaxes are needed. Due to the Optigrip® coating, the skis will not stick onto your clothing, gloves, or leave stains onto your car interior if transported inside your car.

YokoOptigrip®

Yoko Optigrip® is a sensational concept for classic skiing. It introduces classic skis that are easy to ski and almost maintenance free. Different types of Optigrip® skis are made for Racing, Competition,


•YokoOptigrip® skis usually require thorough cleaning only if the grip and glide properties are weakened during usage. This is not caused by running out of Optigrip® coating on base.

•GenerallythetractionproblemsofYokoOptigrip® skis comefrom particles on the ski trail, such as pine-needles and dirt, that stick onto the base of ski, especially under warmer conditions.

•Cleaningisessentialiftraditionalwaxeshavebeenputontothebase and grip properties have been weakened.

•CleanyourYokoOptigrip® skis by following below instructions 1. Moisten the whole base of the ski with Optiwax Gripcleaner. 2. Rub moistened base lightly with steel or nylon brush. 3. Dry up the whole base with a rag or tissue. 4. Repeat these steps as long as tissues get dirt in them.

This treatment will restore the grip and glide capabilities back to normal for all Optigrip® skis.

•YokoOptigrip® skis are to be cooled outside for approx. 5 minutes. A warm base can ice up if the skis are put directly onto the snow without proper cooling.

•YokoOptigrip® skis will reach normal glide and grip capabilityafter 5 to 10 km of skiing. During this introduction period snow crystals will grind away extra surface, and the skis will be optimized for maximum performance.

•MaintenanceofYokoOptigrip® skis is simple and easy. Toprotect Optigrip® coating, skis should be cleaned periodically to ensure their maximum performance. Cleaning is essential, especially if you notice the glide and / or grip is not what it was when you first bought your skis.

•YokoOptigrip® coating should not be cleaned or processed with abrasive paper or any other material that can potentially harm the Optigrip® coating.

•ThebestplacetostoreyourYokoOptigrip® skis is inside. This allows the skis to dry between usage and ski function is maintained and guaranteed long-lasting.

•ToincreaseglideandgrippropertiesofYokoOptigrip® skiswe strongly recommend using Optiwax Gripcare which increases glide properties of skis and prevents icing in problematic conditions without blocking the nanoscale structure of base.

How to use Optigrip® skis


Our full bred racing skis YXR series are world class racing skis with exceptional structural innovations, made by the best available materials and optimal design. YXR series skis are extremely light and easy to ski. Carbon core shaped structure enables YXR series skis to be great in all kinds of conditions. Both skating and classical style YXR series skis feature lightness, pleasant skiing experience and great function in all snow conditions with various stiffness and structural differences.

YXR series skis are manufactured in “cold” for subzero conditions and “wet” for zero and higher temperatures.

YXR series skis are made in two stiffness classes; medium and hard for skating, and soft, medium, and hard for classical skiing.

Entire line up of YXR series skis have high fluorinated nano base material, which rejects dirt and absorbs wax. High quality base material ensures gliding properties also when used for long distance skiing.

YXR series skis are pre-waxed with Optiwax glide wax, meaning that all YXR series skis are ready to ski when they leave our factory in Kitee Finland.

YXR skating skis have a specially shaped and elevated core structure that ensures great feeling for uphill skiing, together with excellent stability on downhills and rolling terrain. The skis features an extremely light carbon laminated honeycomb structure for optimal performance.

YXR Skating Mini 150 is a great ski for World Cup level skiers as a training ski for technique training and loads of fun for all other skiers. The skis are made out of exact the same materials as our “normal” YXR series skating skis, which makes it stiff, light, stable and pure fun to skate.

YXR classic skis are also equipped with an extremely light honeycomb structure and with a core structure that ensures great skiing experience especially when skiing fast.

YXR Optigrip® 2.1 skis are a no-wax-surfaced novelty for wet and near-freezing / wet snow conditions. Optigrip® 2.1 coating is applied to soft rubber based kick area making our Optigrip® 2.1 skis the easiest “zero” condition skis in the market.

YXT seriesYXT series Optigrip® 2.0 skis are a complete non-wax ski offering both grip and glide capabilities. It is a great choice for recreational / touring skiers, as it is completely carefree and always ready for use.

YXT series skis are also available without Optigrip® 2.0 base treatment, named the YXT Classic, which is a good choice for entry level skiers. On bases we use an MC treatment which allows the ski wax to stick well to the base of skis. As an optional choice, the YXT series skis are also made with a BC cut pattern, offering a firm grip without waxing.

YXF seriesYXF Series forest skis are designed to be light weight, durable and flexible. The YXF Series offer excellent performance for hunting or trekking in deep / soft snow. Short and wide Kinos skis are easy to handle in narrow forests, while the Hanki skis are great when skiing off track in open areas with deep snow conditions.

YXF Series Hanki and Kinos ski models are available with Optigrip® 2.0 coating. Optigrip® 2.0 skis are completely wax- and carefree, easy to maintain, with great grip and glide properties in all snow conditions.

OptiwaxOptiwax is a Finnish glide wax brand for snowboarding, alpine and cross-country skiing. It is developed by award-winning company, run by big group of ski world powerplayers. Their enthusiastic and long-span efforts strive to deliver more pleasure for skiing by making preparation of skis as easy as possible. Besides ski waxes our nano technology is also used in waxless cross-country skis, which won the biggest innovation award in Finland in 2010.

Our goal is to make preparing skis as easy as possible. After several years of testing we can bring the Optiwax collection of ski waxes to the market. Optiwax has a broad product line for both beginners and professionals. Optiwax Glide Tapes are the easiest choice for beginners, but thanks to their excellent glide features and extremely good resistance they are also widely used by racing athletes. Fluor powders, blocks, gliders, glide tapes and grip waxes are named by numbers from zero to three to make right choice as easy as possible to current conditions. High-level / active skiers, we recommend our 8100 series poles which have shafts built using a carbon fiber that ensures high stiffness properties (High Modulus Carbon Fiber) light weight, stiffness and balance that are optimal in our 8100 series omposite shafts.

Our 7100 series pole shafts are somewhat heavier than our 9100 / 8100 series. The advantage with our 7100 series poles is that they are more resistant to impact, due to fact that 7100 series shafts are made of (HS carbon fiber). textiles Yoko WINDSTOPPER® textiles have been developed in cooperation with cross-country skiing professionals. They have been designed with the needs of cross-country skiing in mind, at the forefront of which is comfort of movement in cold and windy conditions.


Breathability is the most efficient way for the body to manage the micro climate without expending too much energy. The billion micropores in the WINDSTOPPER® membrane let the body’s perspiration escape easily through the garment, even at high levels of physical activity, ensuring a pleasant microclimate.

WINDSTOPPER® laminate is an extremely thin protective layer, laminated straight into the fabric, making it completely windproof. It is made of the polymer PTFE (polytetrafluorethylene), which is stretched, resulting in a microporous structure. These micropores are 900 times larger than water vapor molecules, so the moisture produced by the body can effectively escape through the fabric. Because of this, WINDSTOPPER® laminate provides absolute wind protection and maximum breathability to any fabric, without compromising its original breathability or adding extra weight.

The vertical movement of the arms is much fiercer in cross-country skiing than in any other

winter sports. The cut of Yoko WINDSTOPPER® jacket allows for maximum arm movement

without raising the hem of the jacket too far up. The hem uses an elastic band and clamps. The coambination of the cut, elastic band, and

clamps allows the hem to stay down.

Pant Cuts The crotch region of Yoko WINDSTOPPER®

pants feature a special cut, which enables the unrestricted movement of the legs during

skating. In the rear section of the pants, particular attention has been paid to the cut

to ensure the trousers stay in place in various extreme positions.

Pant StrapsThe straps on the pants are removable, and their attachment points are made of fabric, so they would be as inconspicuous as possible in use. There are no hard parts in the waist, such as velcro or buttons, that would feel uncomfortable in use.

Textile Collars Yoko WINDSTOPPER® textiles’ collars are

lined with soft microfleece material, which feels warm and pleasant against skin. The zipper-

overlapping material prevents the zipper head from rubbing against the skin.

Jacket’s Sleeve CuffDesign and functionality have been given extra attention for the Yoko WINDSTOPPER® jacket’s sleeve cuff. The diagonal cut prevents wind from moving up the wrist. The YOKOlcr material used for the inner sleeve makes sure the cuff stays in place and keeps out wind, so the arms stay warm for the entire duration of activity.
