Year 3 - Week 12: Reading
Monday – Task 1 – Comprehension:
Read the following comprehension about Greece and answer the questions. When
you are finished go over your answers with an adult or a sibling! This will be useful
for your geography task tomorrow!
Tuesday – Task 2 – Inference:
Watch the short BBC bitesize video which will help you to understand how to make
an inference.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zs44jxs/articles/zqmyw6f
Then read the text ‘The Haunted House’ and answer the inferencing questions.
Remember when you make an inference you have to ‘read between the lines’ that
means the answers to the questions won’t be directly written in the text for you to
find, you need to use your knowledge and what the author says to answer the
questions properly.
Example: The question would be – What is the weather like outside? And the text
would say:
The girl hung up her soaking wet coat and shook droplets of water off of her umbrella
before hanging it up.
Based on the text I can infer that the weather is wet and rainy. I know that if
someone comes in from outside with a wet coat and dripping wet umbrella then it
means that it is raining outside.
Wednesday –Task 3 – The Main Idea:
Read the text below and answer the questions. You are trying to identify the main
idea of the text. Think about what is being talked about in the whole text and in
different parts of the text. Reread the information if you need to.
Thursday – Task 4 – Reading Challenge:
90 second reading challenge: Get a timer ready and set it for 90 seconds, start
reading and stop when the timer goes off, make sure your mark where you stopped
in the text. Then, count see how many words you read in 90 seconds.
Friday – Task 5 – Read with an adult or sibling
Read your favourite story with an adult or sibling and then verbally (that means you
don’t have to write them down!) answer the following questions together.
Answers for comprehension and activities:
