Summer is here… and may the village festas begin! This weekend two of Gozo’s main villages are hosting their annual village festa. Xewkija celebrates its patron feast of St. John the Baptist while Nadur celebrates its patron feast of St. Peter and St. Paul
Thankfully Tuesday 29 June is a public holiday – Mnarja – and with it we get another great long weekend to enjoy the beginning of the summer. Important to note that Arkadia will be open ALL DAY on Tuesday, 29 June.
In this issue the Gozo Tourism Association has provided us with a concise feature on the beauty of diving in Gozo. Maybe diving is one of those new things you should consider giving a try this summer.
While at Arkadia do not forgot to take your opportunity to get your hands on a BBQ2GO pack. (See the ad on our centre-page.) Just purchase €60 or more from our fresh counters and you can get your hands on a BBQ2GO pack consisting of €30 worth of FREE essential products. It’s that easy! Also even though the good weather has just kicked in recently, there are some great sale opportunities in our fashion department. Check out things*, Piazza Italia, and Orsay amongst others for early summer mark-downs by up to -50%.
A sizzling weekend to all!

Gozo’s Underwater ParadiseArticle byJoanne VellaGozo Tourism Association
FeatureWhether you are seduced by the island’s clear waters ,or want to enjoy exploring sunken wrecks or live to experience coming face to face with a seahorse or a grouper are all thrills offered by the deep blue Gozo seas.
Gozo dive sites in fact are well known for their natural beauty as well as for their clear practically tideless , currentless seas and exciting marine life. This was recently confirmed by readers of a UK diving magazines who voted Gozo as the third best location for diving around the world after the Maldives and Egypt. Diving around Gozo dates back to the eighties when this niche was started, which was to grow and develop into a market which is helping to combat Gozo’s seasonality.
During these last years a number of vessels were scuttled on the southern coast of Gozo to create artificial wrecks which by time are developing into reefs, thus offering alternative diving sites to the north western coast.
Diving has come a long way during the past 20 years, especially with the foreign tourists. However this
sport activity tends to miss out with the domestic market, especially those Maltese who are frequent visitors to our island.
Although the future is promising, still much is to be done, like the underwater world beneath the gentle summer waves, there are still depths to be discovered. Gozo’s natural beauty is also being extended underwater which is even more prestine and untouched than on land.

Ingredients (Serves 4)
500g bavette200g cherry tomatoesExtra virgin olive oilSea SaltPepperFresh basilJar of basil pesto (optional)Chilli flakes (optional)
Method
Slice the cherry tomatoes in half and place in a baking tray with tomato skin facing downwards. Sprinkle the cherry tomato halves with sea salt and pepper. Place fresh basil leaves on top. Splash in some extra virgin olive oil on top. Roast in a pre-heated oven at medium (180 degrees) for 25 minutes. Boil fettucini in salted water. Sift the pasta once ready and mix with the roasted cherry tomatoes in a large sauce pan on low heat. Add more extra virgin olive oil at pleasure. Optional teaspoon of basil pesto would give some extra flavour. Some chilli flakes would also be good for those who like to spice it up and add that little kick.
