Youth Explore Trades SkillsMetal Trades & Plumbing Trades Sampler CourseProposed for September 2018 Salmon Arm Secondary – Sullivan CampusTarget Audience – Grade 11 or 12 Students
Rationale:There is a need to develop a Skills Exploration Course for the Grade 11 and 12 students at the Sullivan Campus of SAS. Benefits of this new course would be to increase the employability skills of our Grads and to allow students to sample Trades in demand.

Using Modules found in the ITA Youth (Explore) program, our students would cover a Common Core Module, a Metal Trades Module and a Plumbing Module. There would be a Work Experience component to the program (ex. a two-week placement with a tradesperson).
Benefits to this program:Students will have a blended learning experience in this program. Students will learn theory
(classroom concepts) and practical skills (hands on). This program will be project driven, combining skills in Metalwork (welding, fitting, fabricating, machining) with other Trade Specific Programs such as Plumbing and Pipe-fitting. Students can use this program as a sampler to learn about trade programs offered at our local colleges.
