Sheltered from the great Atlantic Ocean, Galway is one of Europe’s most western cities. Its prox-

imity to Ireland’s most spectacular landscapes and the vibrant and artistic nature of the city

makes Galway the cultural heart of Ireland.

Galway is located on the west coast of Ireland. Generally, students fly into Dub-lin airport. Galway is very accessible from Dublin airport with direct buses leaving the airport every 30 minutes. It is also possible to fly into Shannon air-port, which is one hour south of Galway. From Shannon, there is a regular coach service. On arriving to Galway, students can easily make their way to their accom-modation by taxi or public bus.

Atlantic Language Galway offers a range of transfer options from a meeting and greeting service where students are met at the airport by an Atlantic representa-tive and directed to their onward trans-port, to a “door-to-door” transfer option where students are accompanied from the airport to their accommodation.

IRELAND

JAMES JOYCE, U2 and the creators of Riverdance are just some of the artists that have taken their inspiration from these sur-roundings, entertaining people all over the world. Interna-tional education is nothing new for Ireland. Irish monasteries were recognised as important centres of education some one thousand five hundred years ago. This tradition has contin-ued through the ages, and now that it is so easy to travel to Ireland, many choose to come here, not only to learn, but also to live the wonderful range of experiences that Ireland has to offer. Ireland is an island which is both old and new. Steeped in centuries of history and cultural traditions, surrounded by a landscape characterised by rolling green countryside and rugged towering cliffs, the four million or so inhabitants have embraced both tradition and modernity. While much has changed over the past twenty years as the island has rapidly modernised, the genuine welcome and hospitality of the Irish is still a deep-seated tradition. Ireland is a place of wonder, a place to explore, discover and learn.

Ireland is home to medieval cities, spectacular

landscapes, dramatic scenery, as well as

traditional music, cosy pubs and lively cultural

festivals which make learning English in Ireland

a unique experience

GALWAY

ShELTERED from the great Atlantic Ocean by the picturesque Galway Bay, the city of Galway is one of the most western cities in Europe but its location does not mean that it is isolated. A port city, trade with countries far and wide has been a long tradition in Galway. Today, it continues this considerable history by welcoming people from many countries. It is a crossroads where different nationalities meet, a lively and bustling place which boasts an amazing cultural diversity.

Known as the cultural capital of Ireland, Galway is a small but vibrant university city with a population of 72,000. It is renowned the world over for its music, both traditional and modern, for its theatre and performing arts and, perhaps most of all, for its many festivals throughout the year.

Galway people are friendly and helpful people who are proud of their city and their region, and happy to show it to the world, as they have been doing so for many hundreds of years.

The city of Galway is a maze of small, winding streets filled with shops, traditional pubs, street performers, weekend markets and some of Ire-land’s finest restaurants. There is much to see beyond the city as Gal-way is a gateway to explore the striking scenery of the West of Ireland, from the magnificent Cliffs of Moher that face the Atlantic Ocean to the unspoilt karst Burren to the isolation of the Aran Islands off the coast, unique for their language – Irish (Gaelic) is spoken here as a mother tongue – archaeology and heritage.

Named the “Cultural Capital of Ireland”,

Galway is home to many musicians and

artists and boasts of renowned festivals

throughout the year

“My stay in Galway was

perfect. It’s a beautiful city

and I enjoyed it a lot. I met

a lot of people from many

different countries and for

me it’s great! I travelled a

lot around Ireland and it’s

beautiful! I want to come

back!”

Language Galway

Located in the heart of Galway city, Atlantic Language Galway is a premium-choice English lan-

guage school. Established in 1993, the school is recognised and accredited by the Irish Govern-

ment’s Department of Education and Science

ATLANTIC LANGUAGE GALWAY, established in 1993, in the heart of Galway city, is a premium-choice English Language school. Atlantic Language Galway has established an often-remarked-on reputa-tion for its friendly and personal atmos-phere, its internationally mixed classes and its attention to high academic stand-ards of English teaching. These standards were fully recognised when Atlantic Lan-guage Galway won the Language Travel Magazine Award for “Best English Lan-guage School Europe 2009”.

The Irish tradition of giving a warm and hearty welcome is very important at Atlan-tic Language Galway. The unique culture of the West has much to offer visiting stu-dents. Its welcoming nature allows students to engage with the culture and to integrate in the Irish way of life. The most effective learning occurs when a student feels con-nected to a place and involved in its com-munity and there is no better place than Galway to make visitors feel at home.

The streets are lined with cosy cafés, bars, restaurants and street performers. The school is located opposite the bus station, pro-viding frequent services to and from Dublin and Shannon Airports. The train station located at the back of the school is also easily accessible with several trains running daily to various towns and cities in Ireland.

MODERN BUILDINGAtlantic Language Galway is located on the top floor of a distinctive twenty-first century modern glass building. Carefully designed and built as a language school, classrooms are glass-walled and filled with natural light, which flows into the cen-tral area of the school. This creates a bright, spa-cious and ideal learning environment and a place where students can spend time with their friends over coffee breaks or chat, meet up or study after classes.

NATIONALITY MIXAtlantic Language Galway is very proud of its extensive nationality mix. Each year we welcome students from across the globe to come and study English. They develop strong friendships and have the opportunity to share their many different experiences. This is especially true on occasions like International Food Day, celebrated each term, when students can sample the cuisine of other nationalities.

SCHOOL FACILITIES

Quality educational standards

Personal attention and one-to-one contact are hallmarks of

the work of the Academic and Administration Department

ATLANTIC LANGUAGE STAFFThe Atlantic Language Galway team fully commit themselves to their roles in the areas of teaching, registration, accommodation, administration, marketing and catering.

Our teachers are university graduates who are fully qualified to teach English as a foreign language. Many members of the teaching staff have extensive academic and general experience stretching over many years of teaching in Ireland and in other countries. The class sizes at Atlantic Language Galway are small enough that teachers get to know their students personally and take a keen interest in their learning and their individual needs.

The Student Welfare Officer is available to students daily to ensure that the school can maintain a personal contact with students and offer a point of contact for questions or for assistance. Social, cultural and other activity pro-grammes are also coordinated by the Student Welfare Officer. The school’s Accommodation Managers are also on hand to help with any questions that students may have regarding accommodation or living in Ireland.

QUALITY OF ACADEMIC STANDARDSProfessionalism, excellence and innovation have helped Atlantic Language Galway build its reputation for quality educational standards.

The Academic Department, managed by an Academic Director and Assistant Academic Director, ensures that each student is individually tested and placed in a level-appropriate class. The progress of each student is closely monitored so that students are sufficiently challenged throughout their course.

To ensure that students have an exceptional experience, students will join the International Summer School for Teenagers for extra activities and two weekend excursion, one of which is with their family. Activities and events include:

FEEDBACKIt is important to us to learn how students find their experience of Atlantic Language Galway so that we may improve what we do. Students are given the opportunity to let us know what they think by:

› Completing our ‘Talk to Us’ question naire at the start of week 2› Being invited to meet with Accom- modation Managers, Teaching Staff, Administration and Marketing at any time they wish› Completing an Exit Questionnaire

This enables us to tackle any problems that may have arisen during their stay and also allows for constant improvement of standards and services at Atlantic Lan-guage Galway.
