Saint Pius X Catholic School Newsletter
December 15, 2016 Dear Saint Pius X Family and Friends, Christmas is quickly approaching and the students have been excitedly anticipating this special day through Advent prayer, spiritual acts of mercy, and spirited classroom and prayer buddy activities. The sounds of joy and excitement are resonating throughout our school campus and smiling faces are everywhere. What an especially joyful time it is to be at Saint Pius X School. The students have also been anticipating and preparing for tonight’s Christmas Program, and we hope you will all join us at 6:30 PM in the church. Due to the 5:15 PM evening Mass in the chapel, we will not be unlocking the church doors until the Mass is completed around 6:00 PM. Students are requested to be in their classrooms between 5:50 and 6:10 PM. Also, due to the cold weather please be sure to send your child with a warm coat this evening. In today’s Thursday folder, all parents of third through eighth grade students will be receiving their child’s score report from the standardized tests that were taken in the first week of October. Please read the enclosed letter from Mrs. Kathleen Miller, Assistant Superintendent. It should explain in more detail about the scores. In addition, the diocesan webpage has a list of frequently asked questions that might be of help as you review your child’s Home Report. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s report. Please remember that we will be having school next week on Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday will be a half-day, and after school care will be available that day should you need childcare. In addition, we will have our school mini-camps available on December 21, 22, and 23 as well as January 2 from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm. You can register your child for any day of the mini-camps by going online at www.spxcamps.com. Finally, the faculty, staff, and I wish you and your family and blessed Christmas and joyful New Year. If you and your family are traveling this Christmas break, please travel safely and enjoy your time with family and friends. May you and your family be filled with faith, hope, and love as we all await the coming of our Lord. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas! We look forward to seeing you in January! Cheerfully in Christ,
Ann G. Flynt M.Ed. Principal

Mission Statement
Saint Pius the Tenth Catholic School
Saint Pius the Tenth Catholic School places Christ at the center of all that we do. Partnering with our parents and parish communities, we create a challenging and innovative academic experience that inspires and prepares our students to be capable leaders of positive change.
December 15, 2016 Dear Parents, Every year, students in grades 3-8 take the Stanford Achievement Test, 10th Edition (SAT 10) the first week in October. Students in grades 5 & 7 also take the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test, 8th Edition (OLSAT 8) as do our 2nd graders. Today you will be receiving your child’s score report for their specific test(s). The SAT 10 is a norm-reference test that measures a student’s performance and achievement when compared to a similar group. Scores provided include a percentile rank (PR), which is a comparison of your child to other students; a normal curve equivalent score (NCE), which is used to measure growth; and a national stanine (S), which represents equal units of achievement. The OLSAT8 measures cognitive ability. There are verbal and non-verbal scores that relate to a student’s ability to succeed in school. The achievement/ability comparison score (AAC) compares an individual student’s performance to a norm-referenced group. The designation of “high” refers to top 23% of the norm-referenced group, middle refers to the middle 54% and low refers to the lowest 23% of the norm-referenced group. We hope the report is helpful to you. Students do not pass or fail the test, nor does it determine the grade in which they should be assigned. Teachers will be using the information to evaluate curriculum and instructional practices in an effort to meet the diverse learning needs of our students. The test report informs you as to how your child is progressing in a grade. The narrative report that is provided at the bottom of the test results shares not only how your child performed but opportunities to help him/her make further progress. The diocesan webpage has a list of frequently asked questions that might be of help as you review your child’s Home Report. Please contact your child’s teacher should you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s report. Sincerely,
Kathleen Miller Assistant Superintendent
