Year of Mercy

Rosary for Vocations Sunday evenings from 7:30 to 8:00 pm in the Church. Individual Adoration for Vocations from 8 to 9 pm. Please enter through door #8 on the east side of the

building. Call Ken for more information: 630-818-6261.

Closing the Mercy Door. Pope Francis closes our Year of Mercy today. That does not mean, however, that God will stop being merciful. And it surely does not mean that we have done enough, that we can stop doing mercy. These mercy works, these mercy words help broaden our focus from “only me and only mine” to “always us and always ours.” Such words pave the way to heaven.

How will my heart remain open? How will my words match my works? How will my hands offer help?

What does the Kingdom of God look like? We pray today in the Preface at the outset of the Eucharistic Prayer for

a kingdom of truth and life, a kingdom of holiness and grace, a kingdom of justice, love and peace.

We know and we believe that we get glimpses of it all. Right here, right now. We practice for Kingdom of heaven living after death by Kingdom living now. The mercy works are cherished methods, splendid ways to do this.

A Walk Through the Mass: A Step-by-Step Explana on

Part three: Meal Sharing Con nued www.s rancisdesales-church.org The Communion Rite Our Father and Sign of Peace. We prepare to eat and drink at the Lord’s Table with those words taught us by Jesus: “Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” Keenly aware that communion (the word means “union with”) is the sign and source of our reconciliation and union with God and with one another; we make a gesture of union and forgiveness with those around us and offer them a sign of peace.

Invitation to Communion. The priest then shows us the Body of Christ and invites us to come to the table: “Behold the Lamb of God....Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.” The members of the assembly now approach the altar in procession.

Communion. As God fed our ancestors in the desert on their pilgrimage, so God gives us food for our journey. We approach the minister who gives us the Eucharistic bread with the words “The Body of Christ,” and we respond, “Amen.” We then go to the minister with the cup who gives it to us with the words “The Blood of Christ,” to which we again profess our “Amen.” During this procession we usually sing a hymn which unites our voices, minds and thoughts, even as the Body and Blood of Christ unites our bodies. Then we pray silently in our hearts, thanking and praising God and asking for all that this sacrament promises. The priest unites our prayers in the Prayer After Communion, to which we respond, “Amen.”

DEACON LAURENCE LISSAK ST. FRANCIS XAVIER AWARD 2016 RECIPIENT

On Sunday, November 13, 2016 at the Abbington Banquet Hall reception sponsored by the Diocese of Joliet – Office for Human Dignity, Deacon Laurence Lissak was recognized for his work for the Navajo Mission. Deacon Larry and his wife Janet are members of St. Pius X Catholic Community in Lombard. They have been married for 49 years, have 4 kids, 10 grandkids, and 2 great-grand kids. Larry attended Quigley Seminary North and received degrees in Physics from St. Procopius College (now Benedictine University) and Washington University, St. Louis. In the 70's he taught at Benet Academy and then went on to develop medical software for Datacron and 3M before retiring in 2007. He was ordained a deacon for the Joliet Diocese in 1997. Besides being active in his parish and P.A.D.S. he is a docent and volunteer at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. He has been on the 1998, 2000, and 2001 Bolivian missions and brought leadership to the Navajo Mission since its origin in 2002. The Navajo Mission Our mission trip to the Navajo nation is challenging from the beginning. Whether you arrive in the tool van or drive the four hours after landing in Albuquerque, your first mile in Chinle, AZ starts with a 188 ft. drop from the top of a mesa. The Diocese of Joliet has been ministering to the Navajo Nation since 2002. The first three years were spent improving the facilities at St. Michaels Indian School as well as building homes near Window Rock, AZ. Since 2005 we have been at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Chinle improving conditions in the parish and associated mission churches. The mission has made friends and affected the lives of young and old through installing insulation, building additions including an outhouse, pulling barb wire, adding

plumbing, cleaning, painting, roofing, chinking, and assisting in the Food Pantry. Looking for a desert experience and to meet those who were here first? One does not have to be an expert, but have a willing heart, a good hammer, and an ear to Christ's call.

• Parking Lot Lighting – this project will be done in phases. The area defined by the Buildings and Grounds Committee with the biggest security and safety issues is the Madison Parking Lot along with the east end of the property by the playground. This area has activity six nights a week until 11 pm with people using the Adoration Chapel not to mention Father George walking between the Rectory, Parish Office and Church. We currently have $22,422 in contributions for this phase of the project estimated at $38,000.

• Tuck Pointing Repairs – the Buildings and Grounds Committee has identified tuck pointing and limestone grouting as a major campus issue. We have an estimate to Grind and Reseal all Limestone Copings and Window Sills for $6,100. We will use Golden Touch funds to have this work done before the weather gets below freezing.

• Martha/Mary/Chapel Room Windows – Windows are drafty and rattle. Replacement windows are estimated at: Martha - $7,518, Mary - $3,759 and Chapel - $3,759. Total project: $15,036. Would like to get this project done before winter, but we need contributions to make this happen.

• Thank you! – in early December we will publish our parish annual financial report. This report shows our annual income and expenses of over $3,000,000. We could not operate without the support of all of our parishioners. The $3,000,000 is our operating budget; this does not include projects like the ones mentioned above. Because of so many generous contributors we are able to accomplish these projects. May God continue to Bless You and Your Family this Thanksgiving Season! God’s Peace! John Matyasik

“SINGLE THROUGH LOSS” GATHERING FOR MEN AND WOMEN on December 10 After the loss of a spouse through death or divorce, even those who are adjusting can find the holiday season challenging. Please join us on Saturday, December 10 for a festive Christmas tea and a presentation by Sr. Ann Freiburg, a Joliet Franciscan. The program, entitled “Trusting the Wisdom of the Heart,” begins at 1 pm (check-in starts at 12:45 pm) and concludes with a Vigil Mass at 4 pm, celebrated by Fr. Joel Fortier. This event will take place at the Blanchette Catholic Center in Crest Hill. The $15 fee can be paid at the door with cash or a check payable to Diocese of Joliet. To register, call or email the Family Ministry office 815-838-5334; [email protected] or register online at http://conta.cc/2b15FSc . Reservations are required by December 2. Single Through Loss (STL) is an inter–parish committee of the Office of Family Ministry of the Diocese of Joliet whose members include support group leaders of “Divorce and Beyond, the “Joyful Again” widowed ministry, and other peer support groups in the diocese. Events are rotated at various locations throughout the diocese.

STL’s mission is to provide spiritual enrichment and networking opportunities for widowed and divorced Catholics who have passed through the initial stages of grief and are ready to begin a new chapter in their lives. STL meetings are open to individuals of all denominations who are respectful of faith-based values.
