Wow! Girls and boys you are special athletes. Thank you also to all the other girls and boys who competed at Diocesan level. Well done! Thank you Mr Cant for accompanying them and your organisation. We thank St. Mary’s for inviting us to their enrichment day last week. A big thank you to Mrs Annette Longhurst and Mrs Gabby Jones for organising the day. Our 12 Infants certainly enjoyed the day. We enter into a very special week. Year Twos are going to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We thank Fathers Mark and Reynold, Mrs Geneive Menzies, the Sacramental Co-ordinator, Mrs Jones our R.E.C., the Group Facilitators, Mrs Joanne Taylor, Class Teacher and anyone else who helped these children on their journey. God Bless you all. Last Friday we were entertained by Year Four who told us about Mary MacKillop as it was her Feast Day. Their singing was beautiful and their art work was super. When the monkey was a baby, someone tied wire around its middle and never took it off. The wire was now embedded in the monkey’s flesh. That evening the soldier shaved the hair around the wire and carefully removed it. All the while, the monkey lay there with amazing patience, blinking its eyes. As soon as the operation was over, the monkey jumped up and down, leaped on the soldier, and hugged him tightly. The pain of confession sin is nothing compared to the pain of being held bound by it. Can I recall a time when God freed me from some sin that held me bound and in pain? To what extent was my reaction like the monkey’s? Sins cannot be undone, only forgiven. “As discussed, there is an operational drop off and pick up zone on North Street adjacent to the school main entrance gate. The
zone times are 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. and 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm on school days. The drop off and pick up zone is operational for
a one hour period mornings and afternoons on school days.
During my observation of the drop off and pick up zone I noted vehicles using the disabled parking area to drop off and pick up
children, and vehicles parking in the pick up zone for an extended period in the afternoon.
Whilst these behaviours did not disrupt the drop off or collection of children significantly. Remember not to park in the disabled
parking,
unless you are disabled.”

Year 2 are having their Reflection Day today before they make their Sacrament of Penance on Tuesday of Wednes-
day. It has been a very exciting time of preparation for them and we must keep them in our prayers, along with their
classmates who helped them to prepare.
NAIDOC DAY will be celebrated at St Pius on Wednesday this week. We have lots of activities planned for the day
beginning with a flag raising ceremony and a liturgy. The theme for NAIDOC this year is
Serving Country: Centenary & Beyond in order to honour all Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander men and women who have fought in defence of our country. One of our special guests is Seth
Toomey who will speaking about his life serving in the defence forces.
On Friday we will be celebrating the Feast of the Assumption with a Catholic Primary Schools Combined Mass at St Brigid’s at 9.30am. Celebrated every year on August 15, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary commemorates the death of Mary and her bodily assumption into Heaven. Mary’s story helps us to understand what it means to be faithful to God. When God asked her to give birth to Jesus, she immediately said yes, and she continued to be faithful all her days. God asks us to be faithful just like Mary. God asks us to believe in love, to trust that we are forgiven when we do the wrong thing. Our biggest job is to respond with love and thanks to God. Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb

this activity and learn in a simple way the message of the days Gospel.

Library News The Premier’s Reading Challenge The Premier’s Reading Challenge is drawing to a close. So please remind your children to keep going and complete the Challenge. The Challenge applies to all children from Kindergarten to Year 6. All reading logs are due back to school by Wednesday 13th August to allow time for entering the books onto the PRC website. All the information you need can be found on the website http://www.premiersreadingchallenge.nsw.edu.au
Book Character Parade Our bi-annual Book Character Parade will be held on Tuesday the 19th of August at 9:30 am. So save the date and start talking to your children about what character they might like to come dressed up as. Remember, they need to bring the book with them as well! This year’s theme for Book Week is Connect to Reading.
Macquarie Regional Library The Macquarie Regional Library is holding a sneak peak of the musical production “Still Awake Still!” at the Macquarie Regional Library on Thursday 4th September at 4pm. Bookings can be made at the library or on 68014510. The show is aimed at 4-10 year olds with the full production being held at the Dubbo Regional Theatre. If you book in at the library you have the chance to win tickets to the full production.
Annual Primary Handball Competition The annual Primary Handball Competition is starting in week seven and we hope for record participation. We run the competition with charity in mind, with money raised from the competition going to the term four St. Vincent de Paul Christmas hamper appeal. The competition schedule will be as follows:
It will be a $2 enter fee with this money due to each child’s teacher no later than the Friday before their competition commences. Normal school uniform is to be worn for the event; anyone not wearing correct uniform may be forced to forfeit their match. The competition will run during lunchtime with no interruption to class time. If a child happens to be away we are unable to reschedule matches and matches are forfeited. It is very important for children to have money in on time; it is a fun activity for a very worthwhile cause. Diocesan Athletics 14 of our students travelled to Bathurst last Friday to compete in the Diocesan Athletics Carnival. We have three students who have gained selection in the Diocesan team to complete in Newcastle; Harry Rusling, Millie Gooch and Ella Penmen. Huge congratulations to these three athletes. Special mention to Millie who was awarded the junior girl champion! I have heard some wonderful comments about our students’ behaviour and the tremendous support displayed amongst the team members. Thanks to the parents who showed great support to all of our athletes. Thanks also to Mr Steve McGuire and the staff of Catherine McAuley School Orange for hosting the carnival. Greg Cant

By Abby Jones in Year 4 The coolest person is my mum. She looks after me and helps me with my problems. She’s a bear; brave, tough and strong. I see a big flock of blond hair, French nails and blue eyes. I hear her voice like a bird humming happily. I smell red roses, the smell of her perfume. I feel her soft, warm arms when she hugs me.
BreastScreen is the FREE national screening program to enable the early detection and treatment of Breast Cancer. The highest number of breast cancer diagnosis is in women over 50 years of age, so it is very important that these women know how to access this service. All women over the age of 40 however are welcome to access this service.
