format is standard among the world's astronomers for storing,sendingandmanipulatingimages.Thelibraryisusingtheformatto
digitizesome80,000manuscriptsbecausethefileswillbereadable
long into the future, avoiding the risk ofthe technology becoming obsolete. The
Vatican Library reopened in 2010
completely revamped with Wi-Fi forscholars and visitor badges tagged with
RFIDtrackingchips.Theradiofrequencyidentificationchipsarealreadyembedded
inmanyofthelibrary'sopenholdingsso
volumes can be found and re-shelved more easily. The Vatican's1300+page2010yearbookisfilledwithreportsontheday-to-day
activities aswell as special projectsbegun or completed byeveryVatican congregation, council, commission and office. And—the
SwissGuards,equippedwithhistorichalberds—arenowtrainedin
the latest in personal defense techniques. All 110 soldiers took acourse last year in theMonadnock DefensiveTactics System, self-
defensestrategydevelopedintheUnitedStatesforsecurityofficers
to"controlandstabilize"unarmedandnoncompliantaggressors.

havebeenmakinganeffortrecentlytovisitmembersofourparishcommunitywhomwemightnever,orrarely,seeatourSundayMass.Theseareparishionerswholiveincarefacilities,
orareathome,andarenotabletogetouttocometoMassatthechurch.Youmayknowsomeoftheseabouttwelvemenandwomenyourselves;andareperhapsalreadyvisitingthem.
Thiscareofourbrothersandsisterswhoaresickand/orelderly,issuchanimportantpartofourloveforoneanotherhereatSt.PhilipNeri.Theyeachhavewonderfulstoriestotelloftheirsometimeslifelongconnectionswiththeparish.TheirloyalsupportofthecommunityisaninspirationtomeasIlistentothem.Perhapssomeofyoumightwanttomakeconnectionswithoneormoreofthem,ifyouaren’talreadydoingso.Itwouldbesuchawonderfulkindness
forthem,andaninspirationforyou.PerhapsyoucanarrangetotakeHolyCommuniontothem;and/ortakealongabulletintosharewiththemsothattheywillbeabletokeepintouchwiththeparishevenwhentheycan’tcomebewithusonSunday.Iwouldbehappytoputyouintouchwithsomeofthese,ourbrothersandsisters,ifyouwanttogivemeacall,orsendmeanemail.Thenyoumightcontactthemtoseeiftheywouldliketohaveyoucomebyforavisitataparticulartime.Itisanicecourtesytoaskiftheywanttomakeanappointmentforaparticulartime,andthentheycanlookforwardtoavisit.

Thislargercommunityofmenandwomenformanon-goingpartofourparishthatwecankeepintouchwith.Itisapartofourresponsibilityincharitytooneanother,andalsoarealpleasuretoknowthatwecanmakeadifferencewithasimplevisitorphonecalltooneofourbrothersorsistersintheLord.
