I WANT THAT GIFT!! In the 1st Century

People were jealous People were arrogant

2014 Wishing they had no gifts “I can’t…I’m not good at that”

Romans 12:3-5 For by the grace given to me I say to

everyone of you: Do not think of yourselves more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourselves with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

Romans 12:3-5 For by the grace given to me I say to

“I don’t have a gift” You are calling God a liar Maybe you just don’t know your gift

“I don’t want to use my gift” You are being lazy AND defiant toward God

Parable of the Talents Matt 25:14-30

Talent was a large unit of weight – 75 pounds

1 talent was 6,000 denarii or 6,000 days pay

5 talents was a 100 years pay 2 talents was 40 years pay 1 talent was 20 years pay

There was an expectation by the master

Points to Notice Some have more talents than others But EVERYONE has at least ONE

Every Christian has AT LEAST ONE gift Are you using it? Is it under the pew?

God is going to ask you what you did with it

So What is Your Gift?

Romans 12:6-8 We have different gifts, according the grace

given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is giving to the needs of others, let him give generously, if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
