SC-H-3.4 -BiologicalChange
SC-H-3.4.2 - The greatdiversity of organisms is theresult of more than 3.5 billion
years of biological changeover time that has filled every
available niche with lifeforms. The millions of
different species of plants, animals, and microorganisms
that live on Earth today arerelated by descent from
common ancestors.
SC - Science SC-H -High SC-H-3 - Life Science
SC-H-3.4 -BiologicalChange
SC-H-3.4.3 - Biologicalclassifications are based onhow organisms are related.
Organisms are classified intoa hierarchy of groups and
subgroups based onsimilarities that reflect theirrelationships. Species is the
most fundamental unit ofclassification. Different
species are classified by thecomparison and analysis oftheir internal and external
structures and the similarityof their chemical processes.

SC-H-3.5.5 - Human beingslive within the world'secosystems. Human

current and future globalstability and, if not
addressed, ecosystems canbe irreversibly affected.

SC-H-3.6 -Matter, Energy,
andOrganization inLiving Systems
SC-H-3.6.1 - Living systemsrequire a continuous input of
energy to maintain theirchemical and physicalorganization since the
universal tenency is towardmore disorganized states.
The energy for life primarilyderives from the Sun. Plantscapture energy by absorbing
light and using it to formstrong chemical bonds
between the atoms of carbon-containing molecules. These
molecules can be used toassemble larger molecules.
In addition, the energy storedin the bonds between the
