A presentation demonstrating my rapid prototyping projects completed in class

transcript

by Jon Cody

This class was all about methods of rapid prototype development.

From a simple laser scan of a piece of ginger, I went through many design processes which included:

1. Wrapping a dot matrix with a 3d shell in one program

2. Transferring it to MAYA to distort into the shape shown

3. Converting that file into a file readable by the 3d printing software

4. Printing the model in 3d5. Converting the file to yet another program to

simplify and flatten it to be fed to the laser cutter

6. Spending hours trying to figure out how the flattened shape folded together for a 3d paper model

7. Simplifying the shape again to make it less complicated

8. Feeding another file to a CNC machine to be cut out automatically from a 5’ x 8’ piece of plywood

9. Then spending the remainder of the semester coming up with a way to fasten the triangles together as well as piecing the pieces together properly (I used zip ties)
