Principal’s Message: What a beautiful start to the month of June! June is always a fun and very busy month. While we are wrapping up on one hand, we are looking at fresh starts for next year. As we wrap-up, grades 6 & 9 students are writing their Provincial Achievement Tests (see schedule on our website) and grades 7 & 8 are writing final exams. There are many classes booking amazing year-end field trips with many volunteering opportunities. We are looking toward the 2019-2020 school year with great anticipation. There’s so much to look forward to:
Students eagerly watch to find out who their teacher will be; it is shared in our newsletter. Students will receive a letter mailed home copy welcoming them to their new classroom in the first week or two of August.
Our grade 9’s will sadly be moving on from WHPS; congratulations!! You’ve worked hard to get to where you are and as Dr. Suess shared- “Oh, the places you’ll go!”
I’m thrilled to say that I’m also starting a new chapter in my life and am getting mar-ried on June 1st. I’m adding Tarynne, Tailor and Ella to the Cable family.
We are on track to have our two new modulars delivered and they are expected to be ready to go for September.
On behalf of the staff and myself, I’d like to thank the parents for all the amazing treats last week during the staff appreciation week. We enjoyed getting spoiled and felt very appreciated. Thank you! Now, as Mr. Rinsky likes to say, “Let’s make the days count. Don’t count the days!”

New Student Registrations
For the 2019-2020 school year, all Black Gold schools will once again be utilizing an online registration process. If you know people who are moving to the area and intend on registering at our school, encourage them to go to the Black Gold Website http://www.blackgold.ca/parents/registration/ where they can submit their registration infor-mation. Our school office will re-open on August 26th
and 27th from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM, and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. We will be open August 28, 29 and 30th from 8:30 to 4:00. The first day of school for our students will be Tuesday, Sep-tember 3rd. This will be a full day of classes.
Milk Program:
Our Milk Program is winding down. The deadline for purchasing milk cards is June 3rd. Any milk punches that haven’t been used by the end of the school year will be carried over to next year. No refunds will be given.
Thank you to all of the Grade 6 students for running the milk program this year. Your hard work and dedication to the job is greatly appreciated.
Meet the Teacher Next year, our Meet the Teacher Evening will be held on Thursday, September 5th, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Following the meeting, we will have the WHPS School Council and Fundraising Society Annual General Meeting from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm.

2019-2020 2019-2020
And just like that it is June and the lure of summer vacation fun is mere weeks away. It is at this time that we, as a school community, can focus on the importance of good spiritual health by high-lighting the ideals of gratitude and thankfulness. June is our moment to reflect, celebrate, and ex-press our gratitude for all of the wonderful experiences that taken place over this school year. It is our time to celebrate the many varied things that make school life…well, LIFE!
This month, we encourage everyone to celebrate their successes, both big and little, and express their gratitude for...something! Gratitude is best defined as a meaningful thankfulness for something received, whether tangible or intangible. For us at West Haven, taking a moment to express our gratitude and thankfulness for everything that we have been a part of this year allows us the oppor-tunity to reflect on our successes, learn from our mistakes, generate new ideas for the future...and of course celebrate all the fantastic growth that all of our students have shown since walking through the doors way back in September. As an entire school staff, we want to thank you for everything you do that supports your child’s learning. Have a safe and memorable summer break! We will see you all again come September!

Volunteering at West Haven Public School For the 2019—2020 school year, anyone who is regularly volunteering at the school (bake sales, reading program, hot lunch, lice checks, etc.) will be required to obtain a current Vulnerable Sector Check (from the RCMP) and an Intervention Record Check (from Alberta Children’s Services). Should you require a letter to obtain these checks,
please contact Joanne Fitzsimmons in the school office at 780-986-5991 or by email at joanne.fitzsimmons@blackgold.ca. These checks do take some time to process, so we encourage you to contact us as soon as possible if you know you will be volunteer-
ing in our school.
