DEFINITION OF WATER SUPPLY

Water supply system means the water service pipe, the water distributing pipes, and the and the necessary connecting pipes, fittings, control valves and all appurtenances within the building or it may be outside the building, within the property boundary.

Water service pipe :-

"Water service pipe" means the pipe from the water main or other source of water supply to the water distributing system of the building served.

USAGE OF WATER

DOMESTIC :- The average daily domestic requirement of water like bathing, cooling, washing and toilet flushing for different type of building.

AIR CONDITIONING AND VENTILATION SYSTEM :- Large quantities of water are required for building equipped with evaporative cooled air conditioning/ refrigeration. In both cases the heat absorbed in the cooling equipment is exchanged with atmospheric air by spraying water on cooling tower.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :- Water is required in buildings having laboratories, laundries, kitchens or other processes requiring water.

USAGE OF WATER

SWIMMING POOLS :- Large quantity water is required for ornamental pools, fountains, cascades for human comfort.

FIRE FIGHTING :-A small percentage of the gross storage of water is lost for fire fighting system provided in building for human safety.

GARDENING :- Building with gardens, internal landscape areas, plotted plants, and open courtyards require water for horticultural operations.

HOT WATER SYSTEM

INTRODUCTION :Hot water is needed for bathing and washing in domestic use. Higher temperature melt the sticky oil and grease from the human body, pot and pans, making the clean-up easy. Bathing with hot water opens the body pores, washing dirt and sweat easily and giving a sense of freshness. In other region at cold places hot water is necessary for daily life.

HOT WATER REQUIREMENT :Hot water is used in kitchens and bathrooms in residential areas. It is also required for laundries and industrial kitchens and in building like hotels, hospitals, schools, hostels, industrial canteens etc.

• WC :- WATER CLOSET

The purpose of a WC is to carry out the soil waste to the stack. It is made up of ceramic material with an in-built trap with water seal which prevents the foul smell entering into the toilet. WC shall be provided with flush valve/cistern, seat and cover, connector. Only cold water is provided to WC with diameter 20mm to flush tank and 16mm for ablution hose and the standard height of WC is 370mm from the finish floor level.

• WB :- WASH BASIN(LAVATORY) It is called as “Wash basin”. The purpose of a WHB is to carry out the waste water to the stack. It is also made up of ceramic material. WB shall be provided drain with a trap, over flow passage, with or with out pop up waste coupling and hot and cold mixer. As per the standard both cold & and hot water pipe sizes are 16mm supply. The bottom of pipe of WB is 600mm from finished floor level.

• UR :- URINAL

The purpose of urinal is for urination, which is associated with men. It is provided with waste coupling with dome type grating, trap with extension pipe, push on/off lever. It is made up of ceramic material and only cold water supply is provided to the UR. The standard pipe connection to the UR is 20mm & the bottom of pipe to the UR is 1050mm from finished floor level.

• BT :- BATH TUB

The purpose of BT is to carry out the bath water to the stack. BT shall be provided with an in built over flow, drain with a trap, hot and cold mixer, overhead shower and hand shower. Diameter 16mm cold water and hot water supply to the mixture and the bottom of pipe connected to the bath tub is elevated 550mm from finished floor level.

• BDT :- BIDET The purpose of bidet is for the external cleaning of body associated with women. A bidet shall be provided with a water spray, designed for external cleaning that directs the jet of water upward to the body. Both hot water and cold water pipes are connected to bidet. 16mm diameter pipes are connected to bidet having bottom of level 400mm from

finished floor level.

• SH :- SHOWER

The purpose of the Shower is to carry out the bath water to the stack. Shower shall be provided with overhead shower, jets, hot and cold mixer, drain with trap, glass or synthetic enclosure to prevent water spillage to the dry area of the room. The standard sizes of hot water and cold water is 16mm & 16mm respectfully. Bottom of pipe connected to shower is 1000mm from finished floor level.

• KS :- KITCHEN SINK

The purpose of kitchen sink is to carry out the domestic food waste generated to stack. Sink shall be provided with hot and cold mixer, drain with trap and overflow passage. The pipes size provided to kitchen sink is 16mm respectfully & the bottom of pipes are 600mm from finished floor level.
