FATIMA - ‘OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY’
Fatima is visited by millions of pilgrims each year, one of the most visited Marian Shrines in the world. It lies in the heart of Portugal, approximately 30 miles east of the Atlantic ocean. It was here that Our Lady appeared six times to three young little shepherds (Lucia nine, Jacinta eight, Francisco six). The message was simple - Pray the Rosary everyday and make sacrifices for sin-ners. St John Paul II credits our Lady of Fatima for saving his life when there was an assassination attempt of his life on May 13th 1981 (the date of Our Lady’s first Apparition) in St Peter’s Square - Rome.
Daily itinerary
Day 1, 10th October: Depart London on our flight to Lisbon. Everyone
meets at airport. Please wear your badge so that the leader can easily rec-
ognise you as one of the group travelling. At Lisbon airport your coach
and guide will be waiting to take you to our hotel in Fatima. Evening din-
ner at the hotel. We participate the Rosary at the Chapel of Apparition fol-
lowed by Candlelight procession around the Sanctuary. Your hotel is 5
minutes walk from the Sanctuary.
Day 2, 11th October: After breakfast the guide will be waiting in the lob-
by at 8:30 and we will walk together to the Sanctuary for a guided tour
showing you around the Sanctuary Square visiting the Chapel of Appari-
tion, the Rosary Basilica where the tomb of the seers are buried. We have
lunch at a nearby restaurant and afterwards we walk with the guide to
catch the mini train (€3.50 fee per person - not included). We do the Hun-
garian Way of the Cross along Via Sacre to Valinhos where Our Lady ap-
peared to the three children, Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia when they came
out from prison. Then on to the village of Ajustrel, where the children
lived with their family. Note - keep your mini train ticket for the return
journey from Aljustrel to the Sanctuary. Free time at leisure exploring the
Sanctuary Square before you return to the hotel for evening dinner. We
participate the International Rosary at 9.30pm followed by a Candlelight
procession in the Chapel of Apparition.
