Happy Autumn by Father Michael
Our clean up day last Saturday was a huge success. I am grateful to Boy Scout Troop 349 who showed up in force to clean up the garden. In addition to that, almost two dozen parishioners gathered at the Church to work on various parts of the property. It was warm and humid, but that did not slow down the enthusiasm. Much hard work was accomplished. By the end of the day, the place was spruced up and looked like it was cared for with great love. There was an abundance of old concrete, lumber and landscaping ties that had accumulated around the garden. It was not until we starting moving it that we realized how much there was. A number of old folding chairs and broken furniture were removed from the Church basement. The dumpster we rented was quickly filled. There was a bit of an unusual discovery made. Hidden off in the woods on our property near the garden, there are piles of mirrors, glass, and windshields. The debris is covered by thin layers of dirt. Everything is broken and shattered and cannot be easily removed. Presumably, it was left there by prior owners, unless Fr. Jim ran a glass and mirror business that no one knew about. There was a great spirit that was part of the day. There was a sense of care and pride in what each person was doing. I was hoping to offer a simple meal for lunch, but because of an enthusiastic hospitality crew we had a splendid feast. Great care and attention was given by those preparing the meal. Mother Nature sent a rain shower at 2:00 PM to remind us it was time to conclude. In the end, much of our property was tidied up. But beyond that, it was a beautiful day to experience the love and enthusiasm that so many have for Holy Cross. I look forward to having more of these days in the future. I’m happy to report we received several favorable bids for our parking lot renovation. My concern was that the cost was going to exceed $200,000. We received several proposals that came in under that mark. We will be meeting with several contractors this week, and I hope to be able to announce the details of this project by next week. We will still need to make a special request to the entire parish to pay for the project, but every indication is that this will be within our means. Pray for the many people who have been affected by storms and earthquakes; so many lives have been disrupted. And, continue to pray for peace in our fragile world.

Thank you to all the families who have re-registered their children in our program. We still have families who have not signed up, and our deadline has passed. If you still need to register, please do so as soon as possible. We have started to put classes together. We cannot guarantee your child a placement if we do not have your registration form. Levels 2 through 7 will begin classes the week of October 16th. Level 7 parents and students will be invited to attend a meeting which will outline the Two Year Confirmation Preparation. Level 8 will begin classes the week of November 6th. All Level 8 Catechists, parents and students will be invited to a meeting which will outline the Level 8 year and where students and parents will receive books and an information packet. Level 1 will begin the week of November 27th. Parents will be invited to a meeting to get the overview of the year and the books for their child.
Catechists Needed!
The Religious Education program is looking for Catechists for all levels to
help in our program. If you have a desire to share your faith with the children
