Merry Christmas

As we all prepare for the coming of Jesus our King, we wish all our Catechists, students and their families as well as our fellow parishioners, a very Merry Christmas and blessings in the New Year.

Ellen, James & Mary

Merry Christmas!

Thank you to everyone who sent Christmas greetings and expressions of good wishes. In

all the ways you show your generosity, it is greatly appreciated. Your kindness fills us

with gratitude, for you are our greatest gift. As this year of 2016 comes to a close, we

pray that this coming year will be filled with peace in your hearts, in your homes and in

our world. We pray that we will all grow in love of God, and that we will find His joy in

each other as we serve His people together.

by Father Michael Normally, I use this column to update the parish on news of the last week or to bring your attention to upcoming events. Some news items are very important; some tend to be light hearted and fun. But, this Sunday the focus of the day is the gift of the Lord Jesus. In many ways we hope that this day is filled with wonder, awe and joy. Often we associate those feelings with children on this extraordinary day. But, we also can hope for that same experience in the lives of adults. We know that Christmas does not magically make our lives carefree and happy. It is however, the realization that whatever our life circumstances are, we are not alone. Our God is with us. He gave us His only Son. May this day bring you and your loved ones joy and hope, whether you are in the midst of a great celebration or whether there may be a few challenges in your life. We share in a wondrous gift. May the presence of Jesus allow you to rejoice in the celebration of this great day. We wish you a blessed and holy Christmas.

Could your personal finances use a tune up?

Did your Christmas spending go “haywire”?

The average family pays off $5,300 in debt and saves $2,700 in the first 90

days following the teachings of Financial Peace University.

Dave Ramsey’s

Financial Peace University

Tuesdays @ 7:15 PM January 24 – March 28, 2017

Financial Peace University (FPU) is a Christian based program rooted in scripture. It teaches

the basic principles of living in a financially responsible way. It offers specific guidance for creating a balanced budget, getting out of debt, saving for college and retirement as well as how to give.

In addition to these practical instructions many married couples find the lessons provide a wonderful opportunity for better communication and mutual decision making. It could be a “boost” for your marriage.

This is what parishioners who have previously taken the course had to say: “Be purposeful and have goals with your finances.”

“I wish I had heard about this stuff long ago.”

“After taking this class, I will be debt-free!”

“The diligent prosper.”

“Be prepared – know where your money goes. Save instead of just charging everything.”

“I now really think about how much things cost before impulse buying.”

“You can control your financial destiny.”

If you are interested:

Call the Parish Office to register by giving your name and an e-mail address.

You are asked to make a commitment to be present for all nine weekly presentations. If you are a couple, it is essential that both of you agree to participate.

Please Note: This program normally costs $99 per person/couple. Previous participants of the program as well as several “angels” have underwritten this cost. So, this opportunity is being offered Free of Charge! The class is limited, so please sign up quickly if you are interested.

We were once again blessed with a tremendous response to our Christmas Angel project. Our struggling

households were so very grateful for the gift cards for their families. As parents and family members, we

can appreciate how good it is to provide for our children’s needs. By enabling these moms and dads to

do the same accomplishes so much more than just handing them a gift someone else has bought. They

can now provide in a way they couldn’t before.

This year we helped 87 families with clothing and toys for 318 individuals, including 122 children. We collected enough gift cards to provide each person with approximately $20 for clothing needs and an

additional $20 per child for their toy requests. Also, each household received a supermarket card to help

with their holiday meal. This means we collected and distributed about $9,000 in gift cards and

about $1,800 in supermarket cards.

Thank you so much for bringing the Light of Jesus’ Birth to those who struggle each and every day. You

are truly special ANGELS! Christ is born again every time we choose to give to another, walk with

another or empower another. In addition, the parish also provided gifts to the following agencies:

38 Gifts to our friends at Olsen’s Rest Home

28 Gifts to Mercy Haven

118 Toys to Pronto in Brentwood

47 Gifts to Talbot House

This is a phenomenal effort that requires many volunteers to accomplish. A very big “THANK

YOU” to angel cutters, shoppers, pantry stockers, sorting elves, gift deliverers, wrappers, card

writers, those who donated money, gift cards and special donations which helped us and our

families so much. We would also like to mention the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce who

provided Christmas food for 20 households serviced by Outreach, which was a huge help to us.

THANK YOU seems an inadequate way to express our appreciation. We wish you and your

families a Very Blessed Christmas!

Gratefully,

Mary Anne & Connie
