The structure of sport in Portugal is organized as follows:

The athletes join themselves in clubs to practice a certain modality against others clubs from the same region.

Each country region has an association composed by several clubs who compete between themselves in the championship (Football Association from Beja organizes the Distrital Football Championship from Beja).

composed by several Associations existing in Portugal. For example, the Portuguese Football Federation is composed by all country associations.

The Portuguese Olimpic Committe (POC) is shaped by all sportive associations who exists all over the country.

• The Olimpic Committe is the maximum organ from Sport in Portugal

• Nowadays we have 64 sport federations joined to the POC as base elements from which 30 are olimpic sports (athletics, basketball, judo, swimming and so)

• We also have the Superior Sport Council which has consultive functions

Major achievementsMajor achievements• Football and athletics are the

modalities where we have better results in portuguese sport, but we also have others who can reach some good results like hockey, judo, equestrian, canoeing, sailling and triatlo.

• In athletics, Carlos Lopes, Rosa Mota, Nelson Évora and Fernanda Ribeiro were olimpic champions amoung other titles they reached.
