Makarora School
Learning Portfolio
December 2014
Year 2
The purpose of the student portfolios is to inform parents about the learning of the child.
The main reason for assessment is to improve children’s learning . Successful life long learners are those who take responsibility for their own learning. Developing skills to help know what they have learned and what they still need to learn , and being able to know when they have made progress is self motivating and gives the learner the confidence to go on learning.
Each child is encouraged to accept increasing responsibility to work with the teacher to put together information that will tell the parents where they are at, what they have been learning about and what might be the next step.

Aiva is an independent writer . She is working at her expected level, L1 . She is able to write many basic words correctly and uses sound knowledge to write unknown words. She is beginning to understand the need to write “interesting” stories rather than simple retelling of events. She sometimes uses interesting verbs and attempts more detailed writing.
SKIING ON THE MOUNTAIN
Waiting patiently for my teacher .
Bouncing into action
Sitting on the chair-lift
Breathing deeply before I get off
As getting off I turn into Mc Dougall’s trail
Thinking slow down
Queuing by White star as skiers pass me by.
I ski fast down the mountain. At the white star
