What is Aprendamos?

An academic and cultural enrichment program for elementary students and their parents:

Multiple Literacies Popular Education:

Paulo Friere, “Banking Model of Education” Collaboration

Curriculum: Tutoring – math/ELA for standardized tests. Thematic Units + Project Based-Learning

Who is our Audience?

Public school (track system)

2nd through 5th graders

Children of immigrants

Speak Spanish, English, indigenous languages

Integrate into existing curriculum. Multimedia: easy to learn, easy to teach

Create projects that are fun and that students are proud of.

Talk about media they shoot using cameras and cell phones.

- Mapping and neighborhoods, “community detectives.”

- Integrate with VozMob platform.

2. Mapping Project

Scavenger Hunts + Vozmob

Integrating with field trip or just in school yard.

Upload pics to map and build digital “tours”

Ideas:

- Use media from other projects.

- Edit and shoot with students.

Mini-Workshops: Coming in every Tuesday (2:30 – 4:30) Monday, Wednesday, Thursday – 1 hour

devoted to working on projects. Friday staff meetings
