December 8th the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, the solemn
dogma defined by Blessed Pope Pius IX in 1854. As Our Lady Immaculately Conceived is the patroness of the United States of America, this is a holy day of obligation in the United States.
Through the centuries the Church has become ever more aware that Mary, "full of grace" through God, was redeemed from the moment of her conception. That is what the dogma of the
Immaculate Conception confesses, as Blessed Pope Pius IX proclaimed on December 8, 1854: "The
most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race,
preserved immune from all stain of original sin." — Catechism of the Catholic Church

IGNITE Campaign: Our 8th grade technology class created a video
to explain this tremendous opportunity for our school: IGNITE Video. In order for the project to be
completed by the next school year we will need everyone’s support. Please prayerfully consider a gift and
join those who have already given and help us make our dream a reality.

Christmas Concert Information – Thursday, Dec. 10th at 7:00 pm and Friday, Dec. 11th at 8:30 am
This year’s concert will feature 1st and 2nd grade, Middle School Choir and 7th and 8th grade Handbells Choir. Dressing up!
Boys: Holiday church dress.
Girls: Holiday church dress.
St. Bridget School Handbells Choir & Chimes Choir: Same as above.
Please remember that the dress code for spirit day attire is still in effect.
Remember to wear your concert clothes again on Friday, Dec. 11th for the school concert at 8:30 am!
Please do not wear any of the following clothing: No jeans or denim skirts of any color
No leggings worn as pants – dresses must be at least fingertip length
No sneakers
No heavy clothing-it can get really hot in MPH with everyone in there!!
Arrival: Please arrive at school no later than 6:30. 1st and 2nd grade please report to your classroom. Middle school choir and handbells please report to the music room. Seating: Doors to MPH will open for general seating at 6:30 pm. Departure: Students will be seated by class in MPH. Please remain seated throughout the performance and
please remember to collect your child(ren) from their teacher promptly when it is concluded.
The student council will be selling flowers before and during the concert. All of the proceeds will be going towards the music/drama department! Thank you all for your support!!

Candy Cane Project from Miss McEwen’s KA:
Our pen pals this year are the kindergarten students at Father George’s school, St. John's Learning Center in the
Philippines. With teacher and parent support, the goal is for our children to raise money to donate to their school. After
hearing the story, The Legend of the Candy Cane, students created candy cane ornaments to sell to parents and faculty at
dismissal on Tuesday, December 8. Each ornament will cost $1.00.
Message from the Clinic . . .
When Children Should Stay Home From School
Fever-
is a sign that your body is destroying the germs that are making you sick, and it's a common symptom of infections such as flu.
Keep your student home if their temperature is 100.5 F or higher. Wait until students are fever-free for at least 24 hours , un-medicated
before letting them go back to school. Since fevers tend to occur during the day, it is best to assess overall wellness and resolution of all
symptoms before making the decision to return to school.
Diarrhea –
Happens because of infection, food poisoning, or medications like antibiotics. Keep children home until their stools are solid for a
FULL 24hours and your doctor gives the OK. Make sure your sick child drinks a lot of fluids, too so they are feeling up to a full day of
school upon returning.
Vomiting –
is another way that the body gets rid of germs. It is usually caused by a stomach virus or stomach infection. Keep children home
if they've vomited in the last 24 hours. They can return to school after symptoms have resolved for a FULL 24 hrs. or the doctor says
they're no longer contagious.
Severe cough and cold –
Excessive coughing should keep students home from school. A serious cough could be a sign of contagious conditions like whooping
cough, viral bronchitis, or croup. In addition excessive coughing is extremely fatiguing and limits their ability to concentrate.. Students
should stay home until contagion from cough is no longer a concern.
Sore throats-
can be a symptom of a common cold or strep. Strep throat can be very contagious. If your student has a mild cold, they can go
to school. If your child has been diagnosed with strep throat, keep them at home for a full 24 hours after starting antibiotics ( three doses
of antibiotic completed).
Pinkeye (conjunctivitis)
is contagious, and children should stay home from school for the first 24 hours after treatment begins. Symptoms of pinkeye
include eye redness, irritation, swelling, and pus.
Headaches –
can be a symptom of contagious illnesses like the stomach flu, flu, meningitis, and strep throat. If the student doesn't have any
other signs of illness and feels fine, they should go to school. Parents should use their best judgment as to the overall appearance /mood
of their student.
Rashes –
can be the sign of contagious illnesses like chickenpox, bacterial meningitis, or impetigo (a skin infection). Children should be
kept home until they're diagnosed. They can return to school after symptoms are gone and /or the doctor gives the OK.
Earaches –
aren't contagious. There's no need to keep a child with a mild earache home, as long as they feel well enough to concentrate.
Mild cold or respiratory symptoms don’t have to sideline kids -- as long as their noses run clear and their cough is
mild.
AFTER SCHOOL NEWS *On Thursday, December 3rd, please use the FLAG POLE DOORS when picking up students from the After School Program
due to the “Toys For Tots” Family Movie Night planned in MPH.
*The After School Program will be closing at 5:00 pm on Thursday, December 10th in order to allow students & staff to
prepare for the Christmas Concert (The charge for the day will still remain $18 per child with multiple child discounts).
*The After School Program will be OPEN for another “Fun Friday” from 12:00 to 6:00 pm on Friday, December 18th, 2015.
*The After School December Birthday/Christmas Party will be on Friday, December 18th, 2015.
*The After School Program will be closed for the Holidays from Monday, Dec. 21st, 2015 through Friday, January 1st, 2016.

PTO NEWS Christmas Purse
To honor our faculty and staff during Christmas, we are asking for your participation by
contributing to the St. Bridget Christmas Purse in lieu of purchasing individual gifts for
teachers. This is a long-standing holiday tradition that allows the entire staff, including
homeroom teachers, assistants, resource teachers, nurses, after-school personnel, custodial
staff and office staff to share in the contributions made. They are shared by all of our
wonderful faculty and staff and are presented as a token of appreciation from the students
and families of St. Bridget School.
Gifts can be made anonymously or if paying by check, made payable to St. Bridget School and
designated to the “Christmas Purse” and placed in the special envelope that was sent home.
Gifts can also be put in the Christmas Purse donation box located in the school office.

Coming Next Week: The Christmas Shop!
From December 7-11, children will have the opportunity to come to the school library to
purchase items for Christmas for their loved ones. A flyer and a budget envelope will be going
home with your K-5 child the week of December 1st. All of the items available for purchase
will be $12.00 and under, with most items below $5.00. All students will be given a chance to
buy something for their family and/or friends during their regularly scheduled library time
during the week. Middle school students will be given the chance to shop during their
Academic Resource time, if they choose to do so. This is geared more towards our K-5
students, but we do not want to exclude our older kids!
We will need some parents helpers throughout the week to help the students make

Ignite the Light Christmas Ornaments
The PTO is selling limited edition 2015 "Ignite the Light" Christmas Ornaments! These very
special keepsake "Ignite" ornaments are created by our very own Gwen Campbell.

Teacher Appreciation Committee

Connor’s Heroes
“Childhood cancer affects not only the child, but also the
entire family. Our first contact with a family is just after they
receive the news that their child has cancer. And, with help of
volunteers and donors, we can support the child, siblings, and parents

The St. Bridget Student Council is sponsoring a supply drive to support
Connor’s Heroes, a local non-profit organization, which gives support and
companionship to children in cancer treatment and their families in and
around Richmond.
As we begin Advent, in the spirit of giving, please help this worth-while

Other News . . . Saint Gertrude High School will host their Tuesdays at Twelve program.
We begin at 12 Noon with a tour of the school and end with refreshments and a Q&A with

Admission Testing .... All applicants to Saint Gertrude High School must take our admission
test. SGHS uses the OLSAT (Otis-Lennon School Ability Test). The first scheduled test will be
held at SGHS on Saturday, December 12. Please register online at www.saintgertrude.org

the December 12th testing, there will be two additional opportunities: Saturday, January 9 and
