BUDO: LIVING WITH DEEP CALMA ONE-WEEK SUMMER INTENSIVE FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

THE CONCEPTIntroducing students to a model of critical thinking and a set of practical skills that transform how they experience and shape their own lives.

OUR CHALLENGEThe academic climate in high school and college is detrimental to student wellbeing.

Common remedies such as stress-reduction techniques or confidence-building workshops provide short-term coping strategies but fail to address the root cause of the problem.

• 50% of high achieving high school students reported feeling a great deal of stress on a daily basis

• 25% reported symptoms of depression at clinically high levels and/or noted they had been clinically diagnosed with depression, a rate over 4x the national average.

• 30% of college students reported feeling so depressed that it was difficult to function

• More than 6% of college students reported seriously considering suicide, 1 in 100 reported attempting suicide in the previous year.

A NEW APPROACH

• A new mode of engagement transforming how students perceive and reflect upon their lived experience.

• A fundamentally different approach to students’ goals, achievements, and challenges.
