EdithStein(1891–1942)neverwroteaformalworkofethics,yetherphilosophicalcorpus,especiallyhermetaphysics,containsaplethoraofethicalresourcesandideasthatcanbeminedtoaddressvariousquestions,themesorpositionsincontemporaryethicsandmetaphysics,includingtherelationshipbetweenthegoodandbeing,evil,limits,judgement,responsibility,personalidentity,collectiveversusindividualactionandresponsibility,moralguilt,andintention.GiventherichnessofStein’sideas,canherethicalinsightsbebroughttobearoncontemporaryissuesandethicaldilemmas?HowwouldSteinrespondtovariousethicalproblemsraisedbydominantethicalschools,includingutilitarianism,deontology,virtueethics,pragmatism,andexistentialism?AretherepossiblepracticalapplicationsofStein’smetaphysicsandethicstocontemporarysociety?TheInternationalAssociationfortheStudyofthePhilosophyofEdithStein(IASPES)incollaborationwiththeUniversityofPortlandandtheMcNerney-HansonChairinEthicsinvitesabstracts(250wordsmaximum)dealingwiththeaforementionedtheme.WealsoinviteabstractsonanyaspectofStein’sphilosophy.
