Let’s explore a few questions…

• What is Evangelization? New Evangelization?

• Is there a Digital Culture?

• How do I evangelize in a Digital Culture?

• Can I be like the Samaritan Woman at the Well in this Digital Culture?

What will we do this morning?

Evangelization

New Evangelization

What is Evangelization?

Pope Paul VI in Evangelii Nuntiandi

“evangelization is in fact the face and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. She exists to evangelize

USCCB : Go and Make Disciples

What is Evangelization?

Bringing the Good News of Jesus into every human situation and seeking to convert individuals and society by divine power of the Gospel itself.

We must Witness the Faith with Our Lives

http://bit.ly/1qSLi8b

Goals for Evangelization - USCCB

• To bring about in all Catholics such an enthusiasm for their faith that, in living their faith in Jesus they freely share it with others

• To invite all people in the US whatever the social or cultural background to hear the message of salvation in Jesus Christ so that they may come to join us in the fullness of the Catholic faith

• To in our society promoting the dignity and the common good of our society, so that our nation may continue to be transformed by the saving power of Jesus

Goals for Evangelization

• Steeped in Prayer

• Focus on everyday life

• Evangelize Church goers with a deeper faith

An Evangelizer Must be Joyful

What is Good News?

Loving God that is intimately involved with us

Intermediary is Jesus

Salvation through Jesus’ sacrifice

God is with us still (Jesuit Spirituality – Finding God in all things!)

Good News of New Evangelization

Evangelization is the deepest part of our CATHOLIC IDENTITY:

•ENFLAME those who are already connected to Christ

•INVITE others to join us – in doing so

•TRANSFORM the world

Ask yourself: As you reflect and ponder on the recent documents, what do they mean for you?

To be one who evangelizes it is important that:

• I take the time to deepen my faith • The Gospel is an important part of

my life • I am moved to share this Good News

with others

Reaching the Lost

The majority of Catholics

today in the United States

are “lost” from the Church

to some extent

(infrequent, inactive, or

ex-Catholics).

Is there a Digital Culture?

(Pairs) In ONE MINUTE list some of the things we do not do anymore. . .

For example…

• Communicate with family using FB

• Banking, etc.

Is refusal an option today?

Is there a Digital Culture?

And it is NOT going away!

It is NOT a fad!

Promoted new media evangelization

Pope John Paul I: “Do not be afraid of new technologies!” These rank ‘among the marvelous things’ – inter mirifica – which God has placed at our disposal to discover, to use, and to make known the truth about our dignity and about our destiny as his children, heirs of the Eternal Kingdom. (The Rapid Development, Apostolic Letter on Media and Communication, #14).

As we share our story. . .

Put simply: to our modern

compelling evidence for

God is a life well-lived by

those who claim God.

(LOST) ● LISTEN ● CONVERSE ● INVITE/ENCOURAGE ● SHARE/BRING HOPE

Since the beginning of his pontificate, Pope Francis has been stressing that the most urgent reform in the Church is a missionary metamorphosis capable of reaching those in the “existential peripheries.”

“I dream of a missionary impulse capable of transforming everything,” he wrote in his programmatic apostolic exhortation The Joy of the Gospel, “so that the Church’s customs, ways of doing things, times and schedules, language and structures, can be suitably channeled for the evangelization of today’s world rather than her self-preservation.”

One of the important parts of that missionary transformation is getting the Church at all levels to take advantage of the new social communications media to share the Gospel.
