St. Mary’s has Holy Hour with Adoration each Fri-
day at 9 am. Come spend an hour with our Lord
and rest in His presence.
Maintenance Books
Each of our churches has a black three ring bind-
er marked ‘Maintenance” in the sacristy. These
books are for anyone to enter items that need to
be taken care—water leak, loose pew, light bulbs
out, etc. Please take time to look at the mainte-
nance books and see if you can take care of any
needs. It helps all of us to use the maintenance
books. Of course, an immediate urgent problem
should always be reported by calling Fr. KK, the
office, or one of the council representatives.
Journey with the Pope
"Open your heart, forgive, give others the benefit
of the doubt, understand, you, too, be close to
others, be compassionate, be tender, like Jesus.
We have to love each and every one, remem-
bering in prayer that we are all sinners and at the
same time loved individually by God. Loving the
world in this way, loving it with tenderness, we will
discover that each day and everything bears
within it a fragment of God’s mystery."
Pope Francis

Our Gifts to God
First Sunday of Lent
A covenant is a formal agreement between two
parties. Assuming both parties enter into the cov-
enant of their own free will, it is a bond that can-
not be broken. As time goes on, that covenant
will be tested and its validity questioned by skep-
tics, but it will remain if it is real.
God's covenant with his people is real. It began
with a promise made to Noah and was renewed
in the person of Jesus Christ. It has been tested
by man through sin and by evil through Jesus' tri-
als in the desert. But here in 2015, it still remains as
strong as ever.
This Lent, take time to rediscover and reflect on
this covenant God has with us. Reclaim your
baptism and make it a motivating factor in how
you live your life. Take the opportunity this Lenten
season provides to increase your devotion and
spirituality. You will be tested and you will suffer
trials, for life is not always easy. But God has al-
ways upheld his part of the agreement. Now is
the time to take our part in this covenant more
seriously. © Liturgical Publications Inc

Holy Father’s February Prayer Intention
We pray for women who are victims of violence,
that they may be protected by society and have
their sufferings considered and heeded.
Everyday Stewardship
When Sacrifice Becomes Mundane
It seems to happen every year, like clockwork: we
drag a bit, as we enter into the second week of
Lent. On Ash Wednesday, we feel a bit like sol-
diers banging our shields, rushing into battle.
“We’re ready, God!” our hearts cry out.
“Transform us through sacrifice! Your will be
done!”
But by now, these Lenten resolutions are no long-
er novelties — they’ve joined the ranks of every-
day inconveniences, which somehow are the
hardest to bear. Because transformation, in real
life, happens in inches, just as a battle is won slow-
ly in the crash of one sword against another. It’s
not always a dramatic thing, to the naked eye.
It’s the perseverance in prayer despite weariness,
or the continual denial of some pleasure even
though there’s that nagging voice in our minds
saying: go ahead, God doesn’t really mind.
It’s a week when we all need a shock to the sys-
tem — and wouldn’t you know it, this Sunday
God gives us a double-whammy of dramatic sac-
rificial scenes. We picture Abraham, who also
cried “Ready!” when God called, never imagin-
ing what He would ask: the surrender of his long-
awaited son. We see Christ himself transfigured,
as God shows us what He is ready to give up for
love of us.
We must remain committed, persevering daily in
acknowledging that everything belongs to God.
What we sacrifice, we simply give back to Him.
If God is for us, who can be against us? Can we
still reply, “Ready!” when we hear the call of
God?— Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

Stations of the Cross
5:30 Wednesday St. Charles
5:30 Friday St. Mary
We were created for community. Human be-
ings are not meant to be alone. As each of us
grows in our relationship with Jesus, we find
ourselves drawn further into community. Our
stewardship never reflects just on us, but on
the Body of Christ to which we belong.
When speaking to his Father, Jesus always
spoke about all of us as a whole. Jesus has a
unique relationship with each and every one
of us, but he also sees us collectively as one.
When the Holy Spirit was sent to assist us until
the Second Coming, he ascended upon a
multitude, not just one person at a time.
We are called to live a fruitful stewardship way
of life. It is by that fruit that we can tell if we
are really giving of ourselves in a generous
manner. However, the fruits that result from my
stewardship and your stewardship will never
amount to more than what we can produce
together.
As you try ever harder to cultivate what God
has given you and offer it back to Him with an
increase, what does your relationship with
your parish community look like? How has your
stewardship helped enable your community
to become a clearer reflection of God? It is
important to reflect on these things because
we can sometimes find ourselves drifting away
from community if we are not careful. We are
always stronger together. We never want to
wake up one day and find ourselves alone. -
