The cell is the smallest and most basic unit of living things.

If an organism is multicellular, different cells have different jobs and all the

cells work together to complete the functions of life.

If an organism is unicellular, all functions of life happen in that one cell.

Bacteria = unicellular

The microscope led to the discovery of cells.

Robert Hooke looked at cork under a microscope in the 1660s.He noticed little compartments that reminded him of the rooms in which monks lived. Those were called cells, so he called the little compartments he saw “cells.”

SO…We now know that there is something called a cell. But where do they come from??

This is why scientists have developed the idea of Cell Theory. It is 3 different ideas accepted as

true by scientists across the world. Cell Theory explains from

where cells come.
