1. General description
Thisoperatingmanualshouldbereadcarefullybythecompetentoperating and maintenance personnel.
Wepointoutthatwewillnotacceptanyliabilityfordamageormalfunctionsresultingfromthenon-compliancewiththisoperatingmanual.
Descriptionsanddatagivenhereinaresubjecttotechnicalchanges.
1.1 Intended UseThecentrifugalpumpWs+isexclusivelyintendedforpumpingliquids,especiallyinbeverageandfoodinstallations.
Itsuseispermissibleonlywithintheadmissiblepressureandtemperaturemarginsandunderconsiderationofchemicalandcorrosiveinfluences.
Anyuseexceedingthemarginsandspecificationssetforthisconsideredtobenotintended.
Anydamageresultingtherefromisnotwithintheresponsibilityofthemanufacturer.Theuserwillbearthefullrisk.

1. Readthroughtheinstructionsbeforeinstallingthepumpandstartingitup.Ifindoubt,contactyourlocalSPXFlowTechnologyrepresentative.
2. Checkthatthespecificationsofthemotorandmotorcontrolunitarecorrect.Thisappliesinparticularforapplicationswithriskofexplosion.
3. Donotstartthepumpbeforeallpipeconnectionshavebeenfittedcarefullyandtightened,especiallythepumpswithclampringswhicharesecuredwithwingnuts,i.e.theconnectionsattherecirculationpipeand(ifexistent)atthepumpin-andoutlet.Specialprecautionsmustbetakenwhenthepumpisusedtopumphotand/orhazardousliquids.Insuchcasesfollowthelocalregulationsforpersonalsafetywhenworkingwiththeseproducts.
4. Donotstartthepumpbeforethemotorshroudorshaftguardhasbeensecurelyfitted.
5. Thepumpcontainsrotatingparts.Neverputyourhands,fingersorobjectsintoapumpwhileitisinoperation.
6. Nevertouchtheshroudduringoperation,asitcanbecomeveryhot.
7. Nevertouchthepumpbodyduringoperationifthepumpisbeingusedforhotmediawherethereistheriskofburning.
8. Nevercloseboththeintakeandoutletvalveofthepumpwhileitisinoperation.Ifthepumprunswithliquidinitwithoutcirculation,theliquidwillheatupandmayturnintovapour,causingtheriskofexplosion.
9. Alwaysremoveallassemblyandauxiliarytoolsfromthepumpbeforestartingitup.
10. Neverhosedownorcleantheelectricmotordirectlywithwaterorcleaningfluid.
11. Neverliftthepumpattheshroud,asitisnotdesignedtocarrytheweightofthemotor.Removetheshroudbeforeliftingthepump.Alwaysusesecurelyfittedliftingstrapswhenliftingwithacraneor similar lifting gear.
12. Neverdismantlethepumpbeforethemotorhasbeendisconnectedfromthepowersupply.Removethefusesanddisconnectthecablefromthemotorterminalbox.
13. Allelectricalinstallationsmustbecarriedoutbyqualifiedpersonnel.
14. Neverdismantlethepumpuntilthepipesystemhasbeendrained.Rememberthatliquidwillalwayscollectinthepumpbody.Ifthepumpistobeusedforhotand/orhazardousliquids,specialprecautionsmustbetaken.Insuchcasesfollowthelocalregulationsforpersonalsafetywhenworkingwiththeseproducts.

4. Introduction
4.1 The Ws+ rangeThismanualcoversthestandardversionsoftheWs+pumpwhichissuppliedwithpre-fittedrecirculationconnection,andasimplifiedversionwhichhasnorecirculation.
4.2 Selection of the standard or simplified pump
1. ThestandardWs+pumpshouldbeinstalledasanormalliquidringpump,i.e.witha“swanneck”(twox90°bends)ontheinletandalengthofverticalpipeontheoutlet(seelengthHonthenextpage).
2. However,inmanyCIPpumpapplicationsitispossiblewiththeWs+pumptosimplifythepipelayoutandbringtheinletpipedirect(horizontally)tothepumpinletandtoeliminatetherecirculationconnection.Forthepumptofunctioninthismannerthereisoneconditionfortheinletpipeworkwhichmustbefulfilled,seeSection4.2.Ifindoubt,thestandardWs+withswanneckandrecirculationconnectionmustbeused.

4.5 Identifying the motor modelThemotorisequippedwithadatalabel,seeFig.2.Thelabelindicatesthemotortypeandoverallheight(pos.1),motorcapacity(kW)(pos.2)andspeed.
4.6 Special noteTheWs+pumpisdesignedtorunat2-polespeeds(i.e.3000/ 3600rpm).Attemptstorunat4-polespeeds(1500/1800rpm)resultsinverypoorsuctionperformance.
4.7 Handling and TransportActwithcautionwhenliftingthepump.Allpartswithaweightofmorethan20kgmustbehandledwithasuitablehoistingdevice.Useacrane,fork-lifttruckoranothersuitablehoistingdevice,alwaystogetherwith2liftingropes(Fig.3).Placethehoistingbeltsaroundtherearpartofthemotorandaroundtheextensionframe.Takecarethatthebeltsareevenlyloadedwhenthepumpislifted.

5.1 NotesTheWs+pump,likeallself-primingpumpsofitstype,requiresaninitialchargeofliquid,theprimingliquid,inordertoformtheliquidringwithinthepumpwhichisessentialforitsself-primingfunction.Seetable.

5.2 Installation of standard pumpInthestandardWs+pumptheprimingvolumeofliquidmustberetainedeitherwithinthebodyofthepumporwhereitcancirculatebacktotheinlet.Tothisendthepumpmustbeinstalledwithoutletverticallyupwardsandwithalengthofverticalpipecoupledtoit.Aswanneckcoupleddirectlytothepump'sinletpreventslossofthatprimingvolumedowntheinletpipe.Toprovidespacefordischargedair,anynon-returnvalvemustbemountedatleast0.5mdownstreamofthespecifiedlengthofverticalpipe.Seetableandfig.4.

Keepthenumberofvalves,bendsandT-piecesonthesuctionsidetoanabsoluteminimum.

5.3 Installation of pump without recirculation.Inthiscase,wherethesimplifiedpipelayoutistobeused,oneimportantrequirementmustbemet:asthesuctiontankstartstorefill,someliquidwillbeabletorunfromthetankintothepumptoreplenishanyprimingliquidlostwhenthetankwaspreviouslypumpeddry.Typicalapplicationscanbeseeninfig.5.AswiththeZMSpump,thepumpbodymustalwaysbemountedwithoutletverticallyupwardsandalltheotherconditionsapply.
Note! Anyeccentricreducershouldbemountedsuchthatthepumpcenterlineislowerthantheinletpipe'scenterline.
5.4 Lining up the pipe systemLineupthepipescarefullytothepumpsuctionanddischargenozzles.MakesurethatthepipesystemisadequatelysupportedbyPipesupportssothatthepumpbodyisnotsubjecttostrainsandweightfrom the pipe system.
Note! Duringprimingthepumpmaytendtovibrate. Apipesupportshouldbeplacedclosetothepumpsuctiontopreventpipeworkvibrationcreatingexcessivenoise.
5.5 Power supplyThemotorshouldbeconnectedtothemainsviaamotorswitchboxinaccordancewithlocalregulations.Themotorshouldbeconnectedinaccordancewiththeinstructionsinsidethecoverofthemotor'sterminalbox.Themotorshouldbeconnectedsuchthatthedirectionofrotationofthemotor(andthusoftheimpeller)isanticlockwisewhenviewedfromthefronttowardsthesuctionnozzleofthepumpbody(fig.6).
5.6 Water supply for water-flushed shaft sealPumpswithawater-flushedshaftsealhavetwohoseconnectorsonthesealflange.Thehoseconnectorsare1/8"andfita6.0mmhose.Thenecessaryliquidflowrateis15–30l/h.Max.pressure7bar.Thehoseconnectioninthesealflangeshouldalwaysbepositionedverticallywiththefluidinletunderneathandtheoutletontop.Waterconsumptioncanbelimitedbyinstallingasolenoidvalvefortheflushingwateronthesupplyside.Theopen/closefunctionofthesolenoidvalvecanbecontrolledbythepump'sstart/stopsequence.

Beforestartingthepump,dismantleandcleanthesuctionpipe.Anyforeignmaterialinthepumpshouldberemoved.
6.1 Checking the pump for foreign materialDismantlethepumpasdescribedbelow.Thesectionaldrawing(page2)istobeusedforreference.
1. Disconnectthepowersupply.
2. Removethefrontcoverbyunscrewingtheclampring(item25),afterdisconnectingthere-circulationconnection(item30,iffitted).
3. Unscrewtheairscrew(item2)(useapipeC-spanneroraroundbarinthebalanceholeintheshaftmufftosecuretheshaft).
4. Removesimilarlythehousingclampring(item9)andcarefullypulloffthepump/screwhousing.
5. Turntheimpeller(item4)toensurethatthereisnoforeignmaterialbehindit.
6. Ifthereisanyforeignmaterialinthepump,removeit.
7. Whenthepumpiscleanandfreeofforeignmaterial,reassemblethepump.
8. Whenmountingthepump/screwhousingcheckthatthelocationpin(item8,wherefitted)inthetopofthebackplate(item7),mateswiththehalfholeinthepumpbodyandpressthepump/screwhousinginovertheO-ring(item6).Re-fittheclampring.
9. Screwtheairscrewontotheshaft.Rememberthecorrecttighteningtorque–seesection7.2.18.
10. Pressthefrontcoverintoplaceandfittheclampring.Re-assemblethere-circulationconnection(iffitted).
11. Installsuctionanddischargepipes.Checkthatthepipeunionshavebeentightenedproperlyandthatpipesupportshavebeenfitted.
Tomakethefrontcoverandthepump/screwhousingeasiertofit,werecommendthatyougivetheO-ringathinlayeroffoodapproved,acid-freegreaseorsoap.

6. Start-up and Operation
6.2 Testing the pumpTocheckthatthepumpisworkingsatisfactorily,pourwaterintothepumpandstartitforamoment.Checkthedirectionofrotation(fig.8).Listenforanyunusualnoises.Inpumpswithwater-flushedshaftseals,thesealchambermustbefilledwithwater.
Neverallowthepumptorunwithoutliquid,asthiswillruintheshaftseal.
6.3 Putting the pump into serviceCheckthefollowingbeforestartingthepump:
- thattheshaftguardhasbeenfittedproperly. - thatthereisfreeaccessforliquidandthepumpisprimed. - thatthevalveonthedischargeside(iffitted)isclosed.
Thevalveonthedischargesideisclosedduringstart-uptopreventthemotorfromoverloading,butshouldbeopenedagainassoonasthepumphasbeenstarted.
Note! TheWs+pumpshouldnotbeleftrunningtoolongwithoutpumping(typically15minutes,ifthepumpedliquidisnothot),asitgetswarmandlosesprimingliquidbyevaporation.
6.4 Flushing liquidInpumpswithaflushedshaftseal,checkthatthesupplyofflushingmediumisopenandthattheflowofthemediumisadequate(approx.15–30l/hour).

7. Service and Maintenance
7.1 Checking the shaft sealCheckthepump'sshaftsealforleaksonaregularbasis.Iftheshaftseal is leaking, replace it or its relevant parts.
7.2 Replacing the shaft sealThesectionaldrawing(page2)showsthepositionandconstructionoftheshaftseal–bothordinarysealsandsealswithliquid/steamflushing.
Toreplacetheshaftsealitisnecessarytodismantlethepump.Followthestepsdescribedbelowandrefertothesectionaldrawing(page2).
1. Disconnectthepowersupplyinthemotorisolatorbyremovingthefusesanddisconnectingthecables.
2. Turnofftheflushingliquidsupply.
3. Closetheinletanddischargeofthepump,anddrainthepump/screwhousing.
4. Oncetheinletandoutletpipeshavebeenproperlyisolatedandthere-circulationconnection(iffitted)removed,removetheclampring(item25)andfrontcover(item27).
5. Unscrewtheairscrew(item2)(useapipeC-spanneroraroundbarinthebalanceholeintheshaftmufftosecuretheshaft).Thenopentheclampring(item9),takeoffthepump/screwhousing(item1)andremovetheimpeller(item4).
6. Removethestationarysealface(item5.6),mountedinthebackplate(item7)withyourfingers.
7. RemovetheO-ring(item5.5)fromthestationarysealface.
8. Useyourfingerstoremovetherotarysealface(item5.7)mountedintheimpeller(item4).
9. RemovetheO-ring(item13)fromtherotarysealface.
10. Cleanthestatorandrotarysealfacelocations,ifnecessarywithairorwater.
10aInthecaseofwater-flushedshaftsealsandasepticshaftseals,thebackplatemustberemovedtodismantletherearshaftseal.Therearstationarysealface(item5.6)ismountedinthepressurering(item5.11)andtherotarysealface(item5.7)ismountedontheshaft(item11). Theseareremovedinthesamewayasthefrontsealcomponents.

11. Checktheo-ringforsignsofcracks,lackofelasticity,brittlenessand/orchemicalattack.Replacewornordefectiveparts.
12. Checkthestationary(item5.6)androtary(item5.7)sealfacesforsignsofweartoo.Thewearingsurfacesmustbecompletelyfreeofscratches/cracks.Ifnot,bothringsmustbereplaced.

15. Fitthestationarysealfaceinthebackplatewithoutusingtools.
Note! Note!Thenotchesinthestationarysealfacemustmatewiththedrivingdogsonthecarrierinthebackplate.Checkthatthestationarysealfaceispositionedsothatiteasilyslidesbackwardsandforwardswithinthebackplate.
Ifliquid-flushedshaftsealsarefitted,removethe“drainpipe”(item5.4)anddonotfit.
16. Afterfitting,cleanthewearingsurfaces.
16a Forliquid-flushed,re-mountthebackplate.
17. Fittheimpeller.Checkthatthelocationpin(item8,wherefitted)inthetopofthebackplate,mateswiththehalfholeinthepumpbodyandcarefully,toavoiddamagingtheo-ring,pressthepump/screwhousing(item1)inovertheo-ring(item6).Fastenwiththeclampring(item9).
18. Re-mounttheairscrew.Remembertousethepropertighteningtorque:M14: 70Nm(52ft-lb)M20: 200Nm(148ft-lb)
19. Pressthefrontcoverintoplaceandfittheclampring. Re-assemblethere-circulationconnection(iffitted).

7.3 Replacing the motorThestandardmotorfortheWs+pumphasadrive-endlocatedbearing.Ifthemotorisreplaced,thenewmotormustalsohaveadrive-endlocatedbearing.Themotorbearingisenclosedandpermanentlylubricated.
Themotorhasbothfeetandflange,“smallflange”(B34)forframesizes80-132,“largeflange”(B35)forframe160andlarger.
Followtheinstructionsbelowwhenreplacingthemotor.Forthereplacementofbearings,seethemotorsupplier'sserviceinstructions.
1. Disconnectthepumpfromthepowersupply.
2. Removalofthefrontcover,airscrew,pump/screwhousingandimpeller(items27,2,1and4)isbegunasinpara.6.2,points1–5.
3. Removethemotorshroudand,ifpossible,standthepumpuprightonthemotor´sfancover.SeeFig.9.
4. Undothefourmotorflangeboltsandremovethem.SeeFig.9.
5. Liftthebackplate(item7)andextensionframewhicharestillboltedtogether,upandofftheshaft.SeeFig.9. Removethewasher(item17),wherefitted.
6. SeeFig.10.Loosenthescrewsintheshaftmuff,pulltheshaftoffand replace the motor.
7. SeeFig.11.Beforere-mountingthepumpshaft,removeanydirtandgreasefromthemotorshaftandthemuff'sinternalclamingsurfaces.Mountthepumpshaftloosely.Positionthebalanceholeoverthekeyway.
8. Fitthebackplateandextensionframeovertheshaft.
9. Tightenthebolts.
10. Standthepumpbackonitslegs/bracket.
11. Fittheimpellerandsecureittemporarilywiththenut(M14orM20)whichissuppliedasatoolwiththepump12.
