Dr.K.Raja Reddy, Director of Research acted as President of the programme expressed that Soil

is the basis for food, feed, fuel and fibre production and for services to human well-being. Soils

play a key role in the supply of clean water and resilience to floods and droughts. The

maintenance or enhancement of global soil resources is essential if humanity’s need for food,

water, and energy security is to be met. He urged farmers not to neglect soils and their health and

therefore adopt soil test based fertilizer application in all types of crops.

Dr.T.Giridhara Krishna, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Tirupati felt that it is our

responsibility to delegate a healthy soil to our future generations and it will be a great favour that

we can do for mankind. Every farmer invariably has to do soil testing atleast one in three years to

analyze the nutrient status and accordingly go for judicious fertilization.

Hon’ble MLA Sri Chinthala Rama Chandra Reddy garu expressed happiness for organizing such

a useful programme for farming community and he appreciated the efforts of KVK, Kalikiri in

suitable for the area, value added products with millets, agricultural machinery etc provide an

excellent opportunity for the farmers who are ready for cultivation in Rabi season. He also

emphasized that farmers should utilize the service of soil testing provided by KVKs and

department of agriculture.

Dr.M.Subba Rao explained cultivation practices of different millet and minor millet crops

suitable for rabi season. Dr.Prasanthi delivered an interactive lecture on practices to be done in

standing Redgram, Greengram and Blackgram crops. Dr.A.Rama Krishna Rao explained pest
