This is the cross section of an IP. It is similar to the cross section on a conventional screen in many ways. Both have protective laminate to protect the phosphor layer. After the phosphor layer is the conductive layer which conducts away static. The flexible support layer in IP allows flexibility of the IP, which means a more compact reader can be used. The backing layer allows for transportation of the IP without damage and the barcode on the IP is used for patient and menu identification to that specific IP and cassette.
