• Definition: A fable is a short story that teaches a lesson or conveys a moral. Usually, the characters are animals that act and talk like animals.

Review Concept Attainment Process:

• Students explore the concept by comparing the list of positive and negative examples and discussing what is considered a fable verses what is not.

• Students generate hypotheses about fables and create their own definition.

Generate Hypotheses and continue Example/Hypothesis Cycle

• Students identify the characteristics that make up the positive examples and that are not apart of the negative examples.

• Students will work together to hypothesize the possible categories that include positive examples of Fables .

Develop A concept Label and Definiton

• Students will identify the critical characteristics of the concept.

• Examples: Aesop Fables (The Tortoise and the Hare) Middle Eastern Fables (Arabian Nights) Modern Fables (Animal Farm)

Provide Test Examples to Solidify the Definition

• Students classify additional positive and negative examples

• Examples : What category does Animal Farm fall under? What category does The Tortoise and the Hare fall under?

Evaluate the Process with class

• Ask students what their thoughts are and if they have any idea they would like to share during this process.

• Ask if the students had any difficulty and if they feel like they need any review or they understand the concept well.
