THE CONDUCTOR is often the only person aware of the entire expanse of a given work - orchestral players usually learn only their own parts

The conductor's job is

*to have a vision of the piece;

*to set the tempo,

•control and mix the sound from each musician,•to keep everyone together when the music moves

PROPER POSTURE

The Starting Position

Your upper arms should be slightly away from your sides, elbows out, but not too far.

Conducting a Down Beat

Moving your arms from the shoulder, bring your hands straight up, so that your wrists are at about eye level. All of the palms of your hands should show. Your elbow should not change position much, if at all.
