SIRIM Gold Hallmarking

MS 1247 : 2005 – Description and Marking of Articles of, or Containing Precious

Metal – Code of Practice (First Revision)

A scheme to show the fineness of the gold bar or

article, the purity of the precious metal content in

parts per 1000.

Example 999 parts per 1000 by weight is equivalent to

the conventional 24 carat gold standard. The alloy

must be at least 999 parts per 1000 to be marked as

such. There is no negative tolerance.

Since 1970s

More than 1500 standards

have been used

More than 7500

certifications have been

granted to local and foreign

applicants
