Connect...
Connect with God, with Persons, with Purpose!
The months of August through December will be filled with opportunities for First Baptist Church of Athens. Every member is encouraged during these remaining months of 2012 to make a conscious and intentional effort to CONNECT. These should be
months of renewed connection with God, with persons
we know or will come to know, and with the purpose for which God has made us.
So...let’s do it...let’s CONNECT.

Month by month it is my distinct honor and privilege to share from my heart with you a few thoughts about our exciting church. The ministries and missions and message of First Baptist Church continue to impact our community, area, state, nation and world. What a joy it is to be a part of what God is doing right now in and through this fellowship of believers whom He has used for more than
190 years in Athens and beyond.

August and September hold opportunities for all of us which we simply must not miss. You will notice that we are offering the word CONNECT as a focus point for August through the remainder of 2012. We have many endeavors on our church calendar which merit the attention and involvement of each of us. We should do our best to use these
events as opportunities to CONNECT.
D uri ng th e fa ll a nd i nto the w i nter o f 2 0 1 2 permit me to encourage you and to chall enge you to seek t o CO NN E CT. You and I can use these times to connect with God, to connect with persons and to connect with purpose. CONNECT should not be regarded as a program or another thing to do. CONNECT should simply be a reminder that
“The Hour” (our theme for all of 2012) has come for us to continue to focus our attention on the things of God.
Our lives are filled with potential distractions. We can and do get so busy “with this, with that and with the oth-er.” Sometimes a simple world like “connect” can help us stay on track and keep the main thing, the main thing. I, for one, intend to do my best during these next few months to intentionally and consciously seek to CONNECT. I believe that “the Hour has come” for me to be sure that I diligently CONNECT with God. I must definitely CONNECT with persons. Most certainly, I shall CONNECT with God’s purposes for my life and the lives of all
persons in my circles of influence. Will you do likewise?
Please read and save this edition of The Chimes. It is filled with times, places and opportunities to CONNECT.

Thank you to the Women on Mission Groups who purchased, prepared and delivered lunch to the Disaster Relief work squads in July. Many people were ministered to in the name of Jesus as a result of your work that week. First Baptist Church always stands ready to help us in special
ministry efforts, as well as being our chief ongoing supporter.
Please know that you are appreciated for all you do in the service of our Lord. Be blessed, Robert Fullerton, DOM

Christmas in August WMU has chosen as our Christmas in August missionary, Dennis Conner of Phoenix, Arizona, where he says, “We have an abundance of religion
but a scarcity of the gospel.”
He asks that we first pray for the work in this area. To help in his ministry as he works to plant churches, he asks for gift cards and Bibles, which will be purchased with monies received during August for this mission project. Please make donations to First Baptist Church and specify
“Christmas in August” project. Thank you for your support!
