Dear Parents
A fantastic day dawned last Friday and
with it the children of Cowra Public
School absolutely shone at the District
Athletics Carnival held in Cowra. Our
students represented the school through
outstanding effort and behaviour
throughout the day with 19 students
gaining selection to progress through to
the Regional finals to be held in Dubbo
on the 30th of August. Two students
gained age champions awards,
Matthew Booker for the senior boys and
Madeleine Mulligan for the junior girls.
Congratulations to these two students
and, all the students who represented
the school on the day. Thank you to Mrs
Duncan, Mrs Kelly and Mr Duncombe
for their assistance on the day.
We also congratulate our girls’ soccer
team who were successful in their
match (3-0) against Mulyan. Our girls
now compete against Millthorpe Public
School on Friday at 12.30pm (at Edgell
Park, Cowra). We wish them well in this
next round. Special thanks to Ms James
for an outstanding coaching job.
The school has also received the
University of New South Wales writing
exam results with a huge number of
students achieving not only
participation but also credits and even
a number of distinction certificates.
Heidi Osborne and Isabella Scammell
were awarded Distinctions for their
exams and we congratulate all students
who took part. Parents are encouraged
to have their child become involved in
ENROL NOW FOR 2014 - Kinder to Year 6 A school with unique learning opportunities.
Moving beyond the present by educating for the future.
Strong traditions reflecting community values.
For further information contact the school.

the UNSW exam process as it provides a
wonderful opportunity for children to
participate in a formalised testing
procedure in a number of subject areas.
It has continued to be a busy week with
Mrs Day taking our Public Speaking
team, Brodie Graham and Rebecca
Lazarou, to Dubbo to compete in the
NAIDOC Public Speaking final. The
students performed exceptionally well
and are to be congratulated on their
debating skills. Mrs Day needs a huge
thank you for working with the students in
their preparation for the day.
On Wednesday the school celebrated
Book Week with the theme being Space.
Our library looks amazing and we
encourage all parents to have a look on
their next visit at our display promoting
book week. Many students took the
opportunity to dress as their favourite
book character and it was a real treat to
view the children during the parade.
Reading is so fundamental to a child’s
success and we place considerable
value on developing a love of reading in
children.
Today the school has held the Peer
Support Science day which has seen
students, from grades 2 to 6, working in
small groups, participating in a range of
science activities. These activities
promote discussion and provide junior
students with connection to older
children in a very friendly and nurturing
environment. It also enables the older
students with an opportunity to
demonstrate their leadership skills.
We are looking forward to tonight with
the scheduled P&C Disco commencing
at 5pm for Stage 1 and Early Stage 1
concluding at 6.15pm. The senior
students from grades 3 to 6 will then
attend between 6.30pm till 8pm. During
the course of the evening the canteen will
be operating providing drinks and sweets.
We encourage parents to place names in
jumpers, as several jumpers are always left
after the dance. The school is insisting that
no student leave the school auditorium by
themselves. This means that a parent must
come into one side of the auditorium,
collect their child and leave from the other
side. This allows the staff to monitor the
children and ensure no one is
unaccounted for.
From Monday, 26 August, Mrs Trisha Long
will be taking up the position of KW
teacher. Mrs White will be returning on
Monday, 16 September. We wish to
extend our thanks to Ms Hyde for her work
with KW. We wish Ms Hyde well in her time
at Holmwood Public School. We look
forward to seeing her back in the school
at a later date.
I have been attending the Primary

Wednesday and Friday this week and will
report back on state education changes
in the newsletter next week.

NAIDOC PUBLIC SPEAKING PARTICIPANTS
Book Week Parade Thank you to all students and parents who put in a great effort to participate in this years Book week Parade. We had a lot
of fun displaying everyone’s well thought out costumes at the morning primary assembly and in the hall for infants. We
also had a special combined recess in the library so that students could view other costumes. I appreciate the time and ef-
fort that parents have gone to in order to allow their children to participate. I would be happy to receive your feedback
about our parade.
