Creation of North Chamber Film

Poster

We chose this image of the character of Cassandra to be the main image on the poster as she is the main character and the ghost in the film. We also wanted to use the red ribbon in the poster as it connotes danger and helps establish the film’s horror genre.

Firstly, we decreased the hue and saturation of our image until it was black and white.

After decreasing the saturation to -100 we painted over the red ribbon with a black paint brush as this reveals the original colour. We wanted to do this because the red ribbon is a significant item within the movie and having the rest of the poster in black and

white draws more focus towards the ribbon.

When we reached the edges of the ribbon we had to zoom in so that we could get a better view as to where the ribbon ends. This enabled us to achieve a straight line which reduced changes that the ribbon

would look obviously edited.

This is the picture after we had edited the ribbon.

We used the gradient tool to create a fade to black at the bottom of the image as we wanted a space where

we could insert our billing block.

We then dragged our edited image

onto the template so we could begin to

create our poster.

As we wanted our poster to be A4 size, we searched the size of A4 page in pixels and created a new

transparent template in Photoshop.

We adjusted the size and position of our image on the template. Then we filled the background in black with the black

paint bucket tool.

We inserted a PDF of our

billing block into the space beneath the

image of Cassandra.

We then inserted a PDF of our

title onto the poster

We inserted a text box using the text tool. We then wrote the names of the two main

actresses starring in the film and put them above the title.

We used the snipping tool to cut out our tagline which we had written in our chosen font ‘rough typewriter’ (from

www.dafont.com). We chose this font because type writers were used in the time period our film is set. We wanted to emphasise

that North Chamber is a period film as well as a horror.

We inverted the colours of the text so that the writing was white and background was black and

then we inserted the text onto our poster.

We used Google images to find a picture of rope

hanging from a tree to represent the

suicide of Cassandra in the film. We

opened the picture in Photoshop and used

the crop tool to select the part of the picture

we wanted on the poster. We made sure we ticked the

‘labelled for reuse’ option so that we knew having the picture on our poster is

permitted.

We used the gradient tool so that the edge around the picture fades into black.

We dragged the image of the hanging rope onto the poster from the photo bin, and placed it in

the space next to the picture of Cassandra. This made our poster look more interesting and appealing as it hinted more at what the film

was about.
