FAQ
What is the latest release of Data Services 4.0 ? Data Services 4.0 SP2 is being released week of Nov/14
Which BI/IPS version do I need to use for DS 4.0 ? The minimum required BI/IPS version is documented in the PAM/Supported platforms
document. We need BI 4.0 SP2 or higher compatible patches (4.0 SP2 Patch 5 is recommended).
Do I need to install first patch 1, next patch 2, … No, a patch is always cumulative (for IPS/DS/IS), so you only need to install the latest
patch on top of your base install. Do I need to uninstall an SP before installing the next SP ?
This was the case for DS 4.0 SP1, you needed to uninstall the ramp-up version before installing DS 4.0 SP1 which was a full install.
With SP2 we support direct updates now: you can just install DS 4.0 SP2 on top of the previous install. The SP2 will be a full package, you can install either on a blank machine or as an update to an existing install.
What is the correct install order ? Always install IPS/BI first, next DS and finally IS. Patches can be applied independently.

BusinessObjects Information Platform Services
SBOP BI platform services that come with the Information platform services: CMS Adaptive Processing Server (APS) aka Program Job Server (PJS) Adaptive Job Server (AJS) Input File Repository and Output File Repository
Remark: APS and AJS can be stopped and are not required to run Data Services.
APS is only required during installation to deploy the EIM APS AJS would be required when using the metadata integrator
The File Repository is only needed for Cleansing Packages (CP) Information Steward’s Cleansing Package Builder (CPB).

EIM Adaptive Processing Server
EIM products add a dedicated EIM APS shared between DS and IS. Services deployed to this container are: RFC Server
Used for BW loading and reading via Open Hub View Data Service and Metadata Browsing Services
Used by “external” tools (IS, BW, HANA, ...) to leverage Data Services’ connectivity to browse metadata (show tables and columns) and view data
Administrator Service Used for cleaning up the log files and AL_HISTORY based on log retention period

Installation Walkthrough
Overview: Before starting the Data Services install, make sure you have a BusinessObjects BI platform
4.0 system available, which can be either: Full BusinessObjects BI platform 4.0 Information platform services (fka mini-BOE)
© SAP AG 2010 SAP BusinessObjects / Page 20
Installation: Information Platform ServicesGood to Know Before You Start…
No license key will be required to install and run Information platform services InstallIPS.exe will have a license key embedded
Tomcat and MS SQL Server Express (on Windows) or DB2 Community Edition (on Linux and UNIX) are bundled with Information Platform Services and can be used for Data Services
Tomcat is no longer bundled with Data Services mySQL is no longer used as out-of-the-box repository
– Existing customers can install mySQL on their own and migrate database files– Or customers can move to another database and use ATL files to migrate content– ! mySQL 5.1 is not supported as CMS, so only mySQL 5.0 can be shared for CMS & DS
repositories ! In general we recommend using an enterprise databases as repository, but the bundled
database is very well suited for quick tests or POCs

After installation, the Central Configuration Manager (CCM) is used to control the BusinessObjects BI platform services. Some services installed are not needed by Data Services / Information Steward.

Installation: Data ServicesGood to know before you start…
Data Services configuration during install: You can configure one repo during the installation. At the end of the installation, you can login to Designer and Management Console to
create and execute jobs. You can skip configuration and configure later using Repository Manager, Sever Manager,
and the CMC. New license keys will be available, but also existing XI 3.2 license keys will keys work. You need a running CMS in order to deploy the info objects, you only need to do this once if
you are installing multiple job servers in the same environment. On Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, you can only install the client components,
not the server components
