Traditionally, we viewed security in terms of governments. Security threats were either:

a) Conquest by another government (invasion)b) Replacement by a new government (subversion)

2. The Cold War was a 40-year struggle between the US and USSR in which each government tried to protect itself from invasion or subversion.

4. This is the traditional view of national security
