Introduction
Sometimes the worst part about socializing has nothing to do with the food itself.
Sometimes it’s actually the people.
If you’ve been at all vocal about your raw food diet, whether to a friend, a family
member, or even a fellow raw foodist, I’m sure you have encountered dissenters. I
mean, going raw isn’t exactly mainstream and certainly isn’t considered healthy.
It’s viewed as a fad. It’s seen as something that young, tree-hugging hippies do to look
cool.
So, of course, people are going to confront you about it.
And there are all types of dissenters and unsupportive people you will come across.
There’s the “I mean well, but am completely condescending” type. There’s the “I’m older
than you so I know what’s best” type.
And my personal favorite: the ever-annoying “I can and will argue with a brick wall” type.
I’m sure you’ve encountered these people. You probably even have someone like this in
your own family or circle of friends!
No matter what the subject of conversation, even if they know next to nothing about the
topic, they will argue, argue, and argue until:
a) they have won, or
b) you let them think they have won.
But as you will see, I won’t be dealing with these personality traits directly. Instead, I will
be focusing on you and your behaviors in various social settings.

Why?
One thing at a time. :)
Let’s just get started, shall we?

Don’t Push Your Diet On Others
One of the biggest complaints from non-raw foodists concerning raw foodism is the
dogmatic, condescending tone that many raw foodists assume when discussing diet
and health.
And we all know the culprits here. The movement certainly has its fair share of die-hard
raw foodists intent on aggressively spreading the word to anyone and everyone,
whether they are interested or not.
However, it’s not just these passionate individuals who are to blame. Most of us has hadan experience when we’ve become a little bit to excited about the diet and started
shouting about it to anyone who would (or wouldn’t) listen.
And who can blame us! The raw food diet is awesome and brings incredibly awesome
results. Who wouldn’t want to know what we know? Who wouldn’t want permanent
weight loss, energy, and great skin all for themselves?
Things are a bit more complicated than that. Let me give you an example.
Think about it from the other perspective. Pretend you eat a standard American cooked
food diet. You live on burgers, bacon, and blueberry waffles and you don’t really think
too much about what this food is doing to your body. It’s just the way you have always
eaten and you like it like that.
Then there’s that crazy brother of yours. He’s always been into health and is constantly
looking for the best way to stay in shape. Atkins, paleo, vegetarian, vegan, raw meat…
he’s done it all!
And now all of a sudden he comes at you with news about some kooky new “raw vegan
diet” he’s on. He’s practically hyperventilating about fruit-phobias, gourmet raw and the

percentage of fat in an avocado.
What a nut!
You have no idea or interest in what he’s talking about. All you can think about is the
tasty fried fish dinner you’ll soon be having at your favorite local seafood restaurant.
Yes, this is a heavy exaggeration, but do you see what I mean?
My point here is that you can’t just expect to bombard people with everything you know
about health (which happens to be completely opposite from what most people believe)
and receive hugs, kisses, and words of praise.
Why?
#1: Knowledge
Most people know next to nothing about raw foods, much less health in general. You
cannot expect someone to fully grasp in one energetic lecture from you what took hoursupon hours of learning and experience for you to attain.
#2: Interest
Most people are just not interested in health. They really couldn’t care less about how
much energy you have or how low your body fat percentage is.
And absolutely no one wants to know from experience how little your sweat stinks. Trust
me on this one. ;)

#3: Rebellion
Nobody wants to be told what to do. And this includes you!
Yes, it’s true that eating more fresh fruits and vegetables could probably change a lot of
lives. But this change has to come on each person’s own terms.
In other words, we have to learn it for ourselves for it to actually be of any value. It has
to be our idea, our journey, and ultimately, our decision.
By preaching to a loved one about the power of raw foods, you start off on the wrong
foot. Even if this person would have been receptive to the idea of a raw food diet, youhave possibly turned them off for good with your brashness.

You Can’t Change People
As promised, I did not actually focus on the behaviors of unsupportive people in this
short report. Instead, I focused on you and your actions and reactions to these
behaviors.
Why? Because you don’t have control over people.
Ask anybody with an alcoholic or drug addict in the family and they will tell you the same
thing. You can’t change people, no matter how hard you try or how righteous your
intentions are.
What you do have control over and can change is your own attitude and actions. As I
have shown, you can change the way you approach a certain situation, how you
respond to a specific question, or even to a specific audience.
Often times all it takes is a simple change from you to completely rectify a tense
situation. Even a simply portrayal of confidence can have a powerful effect on how
those around you view you and your diet and how they react to it.
And the best part?
By simply living a healthy raw food lifestyle and leading by example, you will be much
more likely to influence people to change their own lives. People will see your
confidence and the results the diet has brought to you and they will be drawn to it.
They will be eager to know your secret and before you know it, another raw foodist is
born. ;)
