Who am I? • Trevor Drury• Mechanical Engineering undergraduate student at
Harding and currently a sophomore • From Leachville AR,
What was the challenge?
• Wiring laser and temperature controller• Designing a mirror and lens array
Challenge for the design of mirror and lens array
• Capture all the light produced by the irradiated sample
• Focus the light from the sample onto the entrance slit
• Block the light from the laser diode
Current design
• Uses a concave mirror the laser is fired through and a small gold mirror the bounces the laser beam back into the sample to provide a higher intensity of light in the sample
• The light emitted from the sample strikes the concave mirror and is sent to the slit
• Before the slit there will be a lens that focuses emitted light to a point at the slit that fills the collimating mirror in the monochromator
Current arrangement
Other Ideas to test in the future
• Rapping the sample in a shiny material ( aluminum foil)
• Move the laser so that it is of to the side and make a new lenses and mirror system
