Surrounding Habitat

Desjardins Canal

Nutrient Overload

The warm nutrient rich waters from the water treatment facility make the Desjardins Canal a more hospitable environment for algae to flourish.

Floating Wetlands

The introduction of plant material that will absorb surplus nutrients may reduce the algae along with all the problems algae blooms can cause to the canal’s ecosystem.

The floating wetlands can be introduced experimentally at first. Over time, their success can be monitored and their numbers expanded should it be warranted.

Water-Level Access

• Support from RBG

• Semi-formalized access will limit uncontrolled and potentially harmful access in unwanted areas

Existing

Built Launch
