Background

Features of this project-Takes off/lands like a helicopter, flies like an

airplane

-Controlled by software

-Feedback through software

-RC Perspective Change

Background

Design objectives-Physically demonstrate control responses

-Display telemetry sensor data on computer in meaningful way

EE/CS 481 Spring 2008

Founder’s Day, 2008 5University of Portland School of Engineering

MethodsHow we achieved our goals

-Much of the control/display processes are in software

--Easier to make changes without modifying the hardware

--Custom code and assistance from Eagle Tree Systems and Control Anything

-Hardware is off-the-shelf products--Easy to replace--System-wide compatibility

Methods

Independent design, implementation and testing of two components- Control system

- Telemetry system

Components each developed by two members

ConclusionsRC-VTOL

-Complex control processing

-Combines advantages of airplanes and helicopters

-Compensates for RC perspective change

Improvements -In-flight stabilization for better flight control

Future uses-Software package

--Modify for use with different airframes
