TheElginMathandScienceAcademyCharterSchool(EMSA,www.elginmathandscience.org)opensAugust,2018toallstudentsresidingintheU-46attendanceareainkindergartenthroughthirdgradeforourinauguralyear.
TheInstructionalCoachwillensurethequalityandconsistencyofinstructionatEMSAbyprovidingprofessionaldevelopmentandinstructionalcoachingtoclassroomteachers,teacherassistantsandotherstaff.TheInstructionalCoachwillsupportteachersinimplementingandrealizingtheELEducationcommonprinciplesandthebestpracticesasdetailedintheELEducationBenchmarks.EmphasiswillbeputoncoachingandtrainingteachersnewtoEMSA.TheInstructionalCoachwillalsoberesponsibleforleadingthecontinueddevelopmentandrevisionofthecurriculummaps,frameworksandbenchmarks.TheInstructionalCoachwillreporttothePrincipal.
ThesuccessfulcandidateinthisrolewilluseELEducation’sCorePracticesasthefoundationofourmessagetoensureremarkableacademicachievement,characterdevelopment,andcommunityinvolvementforallstudents.AtEMSA,studentsandteacherswillreachtheirhighestpotentialthroughactiveexploratorylearningandsocialresponsibilityinwhich:

AnEMSAInstructionalCoachwill:
• Provideinstructionalcoachingforclassroomteachers—thismaytaketheformofobservationandfeedback,demonstrationlessons,andvideotapedlessonsandanalysis
• Providetimelywrittenorverbalfeedbackwillbeprovidedforobservations• Meetwitheachteachingteamsbi-weeklytoplanforcoaching,schedulevisitsandobservations,
anddiscussfeedback• Assistteachersinprovidingdifferentiatedinstructionthroughworkshopstructures,curricular
modifications,projectdesignandplanning• SupporttheimplementationofELEducationandcomponents• Providesupervisionforteacherassistantsoninstructionalpracticesthatincludesgoalsetting
andobservationsandfeedback.• Offeraseminarforteacherassistants• MeetweeklywiththePrincipalandDirectorofStudentServicestodiscussclassroom

CurriculumOversight
OverseethedevelopmentandrevisionofEMSAʼscurriculumasmutuallyagreeduponwiththePrincipal.Involveteachersintheprocessandhelpcoordinatesummerandschoolyearcurriculumworkteams.Recommendareasforrevisionandreviewbasedondata,feedbackandfieldknowledge.Helptoensurethediversityofstudentpopulationisrepresentedandreflectedinthecurriculumandinstructionalresources.
Supportteacherstoensuretherearemultipleopportunitiesforparentstolearnaboutandunderstandcurriculum.Leadandparticipateincurriculumreviewandrevision.Provideprofessionalsupporttoteachersindevelopingcurriculummapsandplans.Providefeedbackasnecessary.CoordinatewiththemiddleschoolandelementarylevelsPrincipalsandInstructionalCoachestoensureconsistencyofthemiddleschoolcurriculum.
WorkwiththePrincipalandteacherstoleadcurriculumworkshopsforparentsbasedonfeedbackandneeds.Staycurrentinthefield.Identifyareaswhereexternalresourcesandnewpracticesmaysupportourprogram.ResearchnewinstructionalstrategiesandmaterialsandsharewiththePrincipalandstaff.

Assessment
• Consultwithlowergradesstaffontheassessmentofstudentworkandthecollectionandanalysisofstudentperformancedata.Monitorthecollectionandsubmissionofdataspecifiedintheschoolʼsaccountabilityplanand/orperformancemanagementframework
• Providestafftrainingasneededonadministeringassessments• WorkwiththePrincipalandotherstafftoanalyze,interpretandusestudentperformancedata
ProfessionalDevelopment
WorkwiththePrincipalandILTtoplanandleadinplanningprofessionaldevelopmentforteachers.Facilitatecrossgradeleveldiscussionsandplanningonsuchtopicsasportfolioassessment,criteriaforqualitywork,andthedevelopmentofgrade-levelbenchmarksandrubricsinreading,writing,andmathematics.WorkwiththeelementaryandmiddleschoolInstructionalCoachestoimplementaninductionprogramforteachingfellowsandnewleadteachersthatincludesayearlongseminarandstructuredobservationsandfeedback.Communicateandcoordinateplanswithprincipals.Coordinatepeerobservationamongthelowergradesstaff,usingprotocolsestablishedandagreeduponbystaff.
WorkwiththePrincipaltodevelopandimplementprofessionaldevelopmentplansfornewleadteachers.Plansshouldbedifferentiatedbasedonteacherexperienceandjobresponsibilities.WorkwiththePrincipalandteacherstoplanthesummertraininginstitute.Participateinplanningandleadingsessionsasneeded.Participateinthedevelopmentofschool-wideprofessionaldevelopmentgoalsandplansasamemberoftheILT.
Seektoconnectstaffwithprofessionaldevelopmentinlinewithpersonalgoals.Reviewprofessionaldevelopmentrequests.Disseminateinformationaboutoutsideprofessionaldevelopment.Maintainstafflibraryofprofessionalresources.Seeknewresourcestobuildlibrary.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor'sorMaster’sDegreeinapplicablefieldofstudy/educationfromanaccreditedcollegeoruniversity
• Atleast3yearsclassroomteachingexperience;experienceinaschool-basedleadershiprolepreferred
• Demonstratesexperiencewithexperientialorproject-basedlearning• Excellentknowledgeandunderstandingoftheteachingandlearningprocess• Demonstratesexperienceworkingwithchallengedgroupsinastandards-basedenvironment
