and Life Success

Why Are You Here?

What is Emotional Intelligence?

What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional intelligence is a set of emotional and social skills that collectively establish how well we:• Perceive and express ourselves

• Develop and maintain social relationships

• Cope with challenges

• Use emotional information in an effective and meaningful way

What Emotional Intelligence is Not

Cognitive Intelligence (IQ)

•EQ and IQ are not highly correlated, meaning that there is nothing to suggest that if IQ is high then EQ will be high or inversely if IQ is low, EQ will be low

• IQ is set and peaks around 17 years of age

•EQ is not fixed and rises steadily with age and experience

Why Is EI Important?

• Key indicator of human performance and development potential

• Not static - can change over time and can be developed in targeted areas
