NURU MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: SARAH & FRANCISWhen Sarah and her husband Francis learned they were expecting
their first child, they immediately informed their Healthcare Field Officer Stephen during his visit to their home. Stephen referred
Sarah to the Komosoko Dispensary so they could monitor her progress and offer advice on safe pregnancy and newborn care.
During a routine visit, Stephen observed danger signs and advised Sarah to see a doctor. The doctor advised her against manual labor
and put her on bed rest. During childbirth, Sarah experienced complications and severe blood loss. The local dispensary
referred Sarah to St. Joseph District Hospital Migori where her daughter Mary Boke was safely born on March 1, 2015.
“I want to be a good mother to my daughter,” said Sarah. “That is the reason I will practice all ten of the healthy
behaviors I learned from Stephen. Thank you Nuru Kenya! Your guidance saved my daughter’s life.”
Francis agrees. Seeing that Sarah exclusively breast-feeds and already had Mary Boke
immunized shows Sarah’s determination to give her family her best.
