Bathroom Policy• You may not go during instruction.• Sign out and in on the whiteboard

by the door; erase upon return.• NO you may not use the restroom at

the beginning of class. Manage your time wisely.

Procedures for Tardy Students

During 1st period all tardy students should be directed to the cafeteria.

Periods 2-7 students should be directed to the In-school suspension room (8-104) for the remainder of the class period.

Supplies That are Provided for You…

• Florida Collections textbook (provided at http://my.hrw.com)

• The Play, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller (provided)

• Novels, Winesburg, Ohio, by Sherwood Anderson,and/or The Great Gatsby, by F.Scott Fitzgerald,

Supplies You will Need to Supply

• 3 Duo Tang folders; those with pockets and 3 prongs (2 are to be kept in class)

• 1 Composition notebook for THIS class ONLY• Black or blue pens, for writing ONLY

(Assignments in other colors or in pencil will NOT be accepted)

• Colored pens for annotating and editing• Pencils for planning and drafts• Multi-colored highlighters • Flash Drive/USB• Access to a computer and the internet

• Donated books for classroom library• Copy paper• Tissues• Markers• Colored pencils• Or any extras of the things on the supply list

An Important Word About Computer,

Printer, and Internet Access

You will need access to a computer, a printer, and the internet throughout this entire course. Please plan ahead for disasters (For example… I ran out of ink, I didn’t have access to a computer, my internet is down, etc.) It is YOUR responsibility to be sure assignments are in on time and meet the required criteria. Excuses will not be considered.

How to be SUCCESSFUL in this Classroom

☺ Participate in class discussion at appropriate times (not when another is speaking)

• Introduce yourself to your partner. “Hi! I am ________.”

• Write their name at the top of the sticky note.

• Record what you see on your sticky note (write small, you need to make lots of observations).

• Leave your sticky on the board before you go.

• What is one thing about you that will help people remember you? Write this in the box.

• Meet your partner and introduce yourself.

• Now you and your partner will join another pair to make a group of 4.

• YOU will introduce your partner to the other group.

• As each person is being introduced, write their name in their box number and how to remember them.

• When everyone is finished, practice remembering everyone’s name WITHOUT looking at the sheet

A Character Sketch of YOU! Due Monday, 8/31/15

Create Your Own Avatar – An icon or figure representing you, your

traits, and your personality.

• The avatar must be printed or drawn.• The avatar must not be smaller than 5

inches tall and no bigger than 10 inches tall. 3 Pts.

• The avatar must be cut out (see my example). 3 Pts.

• The avatar must CLEARLY portray – A resemblance to you with your name

added 3 Pts., – One thing about your personality (facial

expressions, gestures, clothing, etc.) 3 Pts. ,

– And at least one character trait (cheerful, studious, generous, etc.) 3 Pts. .

• 15 Point Formative• DUE Monday, 8/31.
