Focus and Outcomes
•Background/overview of the Evidence of Learning Framework•Why multiple measures?•Changes to assessments in 2017-2018 •Using data to monitor, inform, and improve instruction
3
Essential Questions
•Are our children learning?•Are they learning enough?•How do we know?•If not, why not?•What are we going to do about it? to do about it?
WHY MUST WE ACT?
• Our present levels of student performance show us that many students meet or exceed rigorous standards of learning excellence.
• There are other groups of students who do not have the learning opportunities or reach the learning levels needed to complete their MCPS education ready to be successful in college, career, and community.
• These learning disparities fall most heavily on Black or African American students, Hispanic/Latino students, and students impacted by poverty.
• As our student population continues to grow, our capacity to ensure the success of these children will define our own success.
WHY MUST WE ACT?
Big Picture2017-2018:• New Evidence of Learning Framework based on multiple measures, to determine if our students are learning and learning enough
• Changes to testing and required assessments• Implement a student data system to enable teachers to monitor student progress, analyze results and inform instruction
