1house for 1house Campaign for Ex-‐Kamaiyas in Nepal
Ex-‐Kamaiyas • A form of slavery which existed in Nepal for over half a century. Under this system, th
ousands of poor Nepalese worked as bonded labourers (without remuneration) to repay loans owed by their ancestors.
• The government of Nepal declared the Kamaiya free in mid 2000. Over 20,000 households received allocations of land from the government; however, much of this land is either barren, disaster prone or poorly connected to essential facilities. Promises of other assistance remain unfulfilled.
• Ex bonded labourer live on camp like structure(Cluster) of 80 families, 120 families and 200 families. We can replicate this model to any settlements depending on the availability of resources. More than 24,000 families are on same desperate situation.

Campaign Concept
• Title : 1house for 1house Campaign for Ex-‐Kamaiyas in Nepal
• Sub @tle : Family fearing rainy season
‘When I met a family in Ex-‐Kamaiyas village. Almost of them have thatched and mud house. The house looked very old but the family said it was only one-‐year old. beThey could not sleep when it was rain (During monsoon season, rainy days is con@nuous for 4 months) cause there is no space to lay down on floor. Life looked extremely tough and mother who talked to me almost cried(tears was in eyes), but the children was just smiling with their siblings.’
There is lots of people who live in thatched wall and roof house . This house is very weak so
water came to house during monsoon season in Nepal. Family cannot sleep in the house and someOmes they must move to neighbors’ houses. Children can catch a cold or other hygiene related disease owing to this living condiOon. And they do not have money to repair home every year. There is no choice but to live in old house without wall or roof.
