Part L: Experience Statement for Building Surveyor (Unlimited)
How to fill out this statement
STEP 1
Read about the skills, knowledge and experience that you need to demonstrate if you are applying for registration in the category of Building Surveyor (Unlimited).
STEP 2
Fill out:
· table 1 to tell us about your experience in assisting a buildingsurveyor to assess applications for building and other permits, and
· table 2 and table 3 to tell us about your experience in carrying outinspections of building work for all classes of building:
– up to three storeys in height and with a floor area of up to2000 square metres, and
– above three storeys in height and/or with a floor area of morethan 2000 square metres.
STEP 3
Read table 4. It explains the types of evidence that you should use to demonstrate the experience noted in table 1.
Read table 5 and table 6. They explain the types of evidence you should use to demonstrate the experience noted in table 2 and table 3.
You need to present your evidence portfolio when you lodge your application.

Please include as much detail as possible, because this statement will be usedto work out whether you have enough experience for registration.
In your application, you will need to provide references to confirm you havecompleted this work.

STEP 1. Learn about skills, knowledge and experience that you need
Knowledge
If you have successfully completed a degree in Building Surveying, you will satisfy the knowledge requirements for registration in the category of Building Surveyor (Unlimited).
If you have successfully completed one of the following qualifications, you will satisfy some of the knowledge required for registration in the category of Building Surveyor (Unlimited):
· Bachelor of Building Surveying from Holmesglen Institute
· Bachelor of Building Surveying from Victoria University
The diploma qualification covers knowledge requirements for building surveying work for residential buildings and domestic scale buildings. The advanced diploma covers knowledge requirements for building surveying work for all classes of building up to three storeys in height.
Experience
To be registered as a Building Surveyor (Unlimited), you must demonstrate you have at least three years of relevant experience in:
· assessing applications for building permits, occupancy permits andtemporary occupation of commercial and residential buildings
· carrying out initial and advanced construction inspections for residentialand commercial buildings
· identifying, reporting and resolving non-compliance with building controllegislation, building regulations and the building permit issued in relationto the building work
· preparing building notices and building orders
for residential, commercial and industrial buildings:
· up to three storeys in height and with a floor area of up to 2000 squaremetres, and
· above three storeys in height, and
· with a maximum floor area of more than 2000 square metres.
To assist in our assessment of whether you have the required experience for registration in this category of building practitioner, you must provide a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your experience.
This portfolio of evidence should demonstrate your capacity to undertake all of the activities associated with the category of Building Surveyor (Unlimited) in a competent manner and to a professional standard.
Your portfolio should include documentary evidence (table 4, table 5 and table 6) of your experience in the areas that you tick in table 1, table 2 and table 3.
Finally, it must also demonstrate that you have at least three years of relevant experience.
‘Class’ refers to the class of building as classified by the Building Code of Australia (see Part A3 of Volume 1).
‘Type of construction’ refers to the type of fire-resisting construction required for different building classes by the rise in storeys, as specified in the Building Code of Australia (see Part C1 of Volume 1).
