Female Reproductive System:Words to be familiar with

ESTROGEN Female hormone

OVUM Female sex cell that is released from the ovaries during ovulation.

OVULATION The release of one mature egg cell each month.

FERTILIZATION Occurs when a male’s sperm cell joins with a female’s egg cell.

IMPLANTATION When a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine wall at the start pregnancy.

MENSTRUATION Uterine lining, the unfertilized egg, and some blood flow out of the body.

Functions of the Female Reproductive System:

• Produces estrogen.• Produces, stores, and transports ova.• Provides a place for fertilization to occur.• Protects and nourishes the fertilized egg

as it grows and matures into a human being.

tampons and sanitary pads frequently.4. Practice sexual abstinence before

marriage

New Terms

• Sexual Abstinence: Not engaging in sexual activity until marriage.

• Sexual Activity: Any genital contact. (There are many definitions for this. This is how we will define it in our class.)

Any questions???

Matching Activity

• Match each term with its correct definition.

• When you think you have them all correct, compare with another group.

• After you have compared, raise your hands and I will check you off.

Male Reproduction system
