Some say Lord Luis Mountbattenwas inexperienced in love andpreferred the company of men, whichdrove his wife into others arms.

It has already toured India andLondon to critical acclaim.
It is written and produced by
Pramila le Hunt, a Tory candidatein the 83 UK election and one ofthe first women of Asian origin tostand for Parliament for theConservatives.
The plays publicity states:[Nehru], the first prime ministerof free India speaks his truth . . .bonding with the family ladies andEdwina Mountbatten, towardswhom his lonely heart reachedout.
A report in The Daily Mail aboutthe movie, Indian Summer, madein 2009, reads: A film about theromance between the wife of thelast British Viceroy of India and
the countrys first prime minister hasbeen shelved after Indian officialstried to pressure the director totone down the script.
Indian Summer, which was set tostar Cate Blanchett and Hugh Grantwas based on a non-fiction bookabout Lord Mountbatten.
Dilip Shankar, a prominent Indianactor and personality, was a castingdirector on the movie four years agowhen it was scrapped.

why shouldnt poor old Mr
Nehru have one? That was the sympathetic reaction of the
owner of the India Club when asked abouttwo of its most famous members.
Yagdar Marker, who bought the Londonclub, in 1997 added: [Nehru] was widowedat an early age. They were just human beings.
Pundit Nehru, Indias first prime minister, and Lady Mountbatten the wife of the lastViceroy, Louis Mountbatten, were said tohave been lovers as the British Raj came toan end in 1947. (See our front page story).
The pair were founding members of theIndia Club, set up by Indian statesman,Krishna Menon. Still maintained in original

A SCENIC half-hour beach walkaway from Rock aka Chelsea onSea just across the water fromPadstow and only an hours drivefrom Newquay airport, Polzeathseems, dare I say it, perfect.
Family-sized holiday homes linethe areas coastal path, and largegroups with surfboards and beachgear are not an infrequent sight!
The happy and bustling TristramCampsite offers a less expensivebut equally beautiful vista of theocean from its location abovePolzeath Beach.
The tents multi-coloured wallsonly add to the lively and activeatmosphere.
It is worthy to note, however, that renting a villa and camping arenot the only ways in which onecan live out the Polzeathexperience; the beautiful St Moritz
hotel where I was lucky enoughto stay is only a 15-minute coastal walk fromthe beach.
The hotel providesunlimited access to anoutdoor and indoor pool, asauna, steam room, gymand restaurant not alltoo unpleasant after asandy and active day onthis north-Cornish beach!
The Waterfront Restaurant offersthe perfect dishes to accompany asunset, where the Galleon Cafand Cone Zone give a morebeach-friendly option ofsandwiches and panini, with an
array of veggie options at both.Surfing is the beachs most
popular activity, and several surfcompanies Wavehuntersincluded offer competitive ratesfor lessons or board rentals.
Secret beachThroughout the week the surf was
alive with coloured boards.Having surfed several times
before, I decided on tryingsomething new.
Paddle boarding was my chosenactivity. Friends and I then foundourselves a secret beach, wherewe sunbathed and rock climbedcarelessly until we realised wewere being charged for everyextra hour.
Lets just say we were a lotquicker on the way back.
Coasteering, cave diving, speedboating, walking, cycling, snorklingand skim boarding are alsopopular; things to put on the next
to do list I say!

AlthoughMaharashi MaheshYogi is no longer
with us, TM, as it is called, isflourishing worldwide.
Here, two couples reveal what itmeans for them.
EVENTS manager, Maggy, 33 andtrainee patent attorney, Eliot, 32, havetaken to TM like ducks to calm water.
They have been attending classes inBristol, where they live to explore forthemselves the mysteries ofmeditation.
This is a massive year for me,professionally, said Eliot (pictured leftwith Maggy). Im under a tonne of
pressure at work.My good friends Jonathan andPenny (see below) have exuded thecalmness andwell-beingthat TMclaims to offer, and I wanted to tasteit for myself.
I think our minds are the mostamazing machines and Ive alwayswanted to explore their power.
Maggy added: I was so impressedwith the potential benefits that I hadto try it.
Practitioners aim to meditate for20 minutes twice-a-day.
No particular diet has to beadopted, though followers arevegetarian-friendly.
Its pretty light on mumbo-jumbo,said Eliot. Having said that, stilling themind using my mantra is no mean feat.
Maggy reports dizziness, a numbleft hand and sensations of rocking onwater.
Sounds great to me," remarkedEliot. Im just happy with a few

moments respite from the endlessmonologue in my head.
And Maggy? I have yet to transcenddeep enough but will continue toventure into unknown innerconsciousness, she commented.
Friends Jonathan Barnett, 31 andPenelope Barnett, 28, also live inBristol and have been practising TMtogether for nearly a year.
They were married in India in 2011,
a country they both love.Jonathan, a musician and teacher,
learned the transcendentalmeditation technique six monthsbefore Penny, who very soon becameintrigued by the extra energy andsense of well-being her husband wasshowing.
Jonathan explained: When Imeditate I feel I am going back to theme that is most me, the Jonathan that
is unshaken by the days events, theunbounded me that has always beenthere and will ever be.
There is a physical and mentalreassurance that TM gives - at its bestit feels like the whole universe isholding me like a mother holds hernew born baby.
At other times, my thoughts arestrong and interchange with themantra but even then I remember my
teaching, that this is a helpful stress-release process.
And Penny, the manager of analternative lifestyle shop, added: Aswell as the profound benefits ofpractising TM, learning it has alsobrought us into contact with the kindwords and wisdom of the Maharishi -including his translation andcommentary of the Bhagavad Gita -which offers lessons on living in every
aspect - eating,sleeping,
creativity andrelationships.One of his
sayings wasmake mistakeswith joy! I feelmeditating hasbroughtJonathan and Icloser to thevalues we hold. For more infoon TM and what itoffers just click on

I will quit if we get
into bed with CoEA METHODIST pastor is setto leave his church if it getstoo close to the Church ofEngland, FGhas been told.
The proposed mergerhas been on the cardsever since a specialreport was published
in 2003.But as the proposalhas become more of areality, cracks arebeginning to emerge, according to thepastor.
Daniel Woodhouse, atheology student atJohn Wesley House inCambridge, told FG: Ifthis merger goes aheadI will leave. I willbecome a Quaker.
Methodism has strong socialistprinciples. Many of the Labour partyspolicies came from Methodism.
If we get taken over by the Church ofEngland we will lose that and I wouldntbe happy about that.
At Wesley House, appropriately basedin Jesus Lane, Cambridge, Daniel studiesalongside Christians of all denomi-nations. These include Anglicans, bothhigh and low church, Roman Catholicsand others.
He finds Quakerism attractive because
of its lack of a hierarchy and the factthat members of the congregation who
are moved by the spirit and speak outat gatherings are all given equalrecognition.
[Methodists] would lose that sort ofegalitarianism if we became subsumed
by the Church of England,he claimed. Daniel becamea vegan earlier this yearafter he felt God spokedirectly to him in the pitof his stomach. This change of heart,
which Daniel himselfdesribed as his own, personal Damasceneconversion was reportedin the April issue ofFriends Gazette. As part of his studies he
travels to Methodistcongregations in other
parts of Cambridge and the
country to preach and talk to the laity.A Covenant between the Methodist
Church of Great Britain and the Churchof England was signed on 1st November2003 in the presence of the Queen. It putsthe two churches on a path of everdeepening relationships and mutual trust.
Methodist links to Quakerism are
strong.
These go back to the early 19th century
when independent Methodists adopted
the plain dress and speech of Quakers.
The independents adopted the lack of
distinction between laity and clergy afeature of Quakerism to this day.
Im not drunk!?*! Ive only had a swig of orangeORANGE juice can contain small amounts of alcohol, especially if it is left outand not put in the fridge, a Methodist university has claimed.According to a report published by Indiana Weslyan University in the US, a
standard glass of orange juice contains between .2% and .5% alcohol. Six glassesof orange juice could, theoretically, create the same effect as six bottles of non-alcoholic beer. When, say, natural unpasteurised apple or orange juice sits in thefridge or out of it for a long time it can get naturally working, very slowlyturning into wine and get bubbly because of wild yeasts, the report says. The yeasts eat the sugars and multiply. CO2 and small amounts of alcohol are
the by-products. This process will happen more quickly when out of the fridge. Itis known as natural fermentation.
Methodists do not advocate teetotalism but favour responsible drinking.
Methodisms socialist roots in danger of being betrayed- claim
Daniel Woodhouse - Ill quit.

IF INDIA was the jewel in the British
crown. Then Calcutta was the sparkle in
that glittering gem.And Wellesley reservoir, or tank, as it is called was
the citys lifeblood.Part of the vital water supply, the huge tank or lake on
the old Circular Road was built by Marquis Wellesley onhis appointment as governor-general in 1798.
With its grassy banks, huge banyans and lilly-ladensurface it was also a peaceful and picturesque retreat inthe hot and dusty city.
But this tank held a dark secret. Rumour had it that itwas haunted by an evil spirit whichfed on human life. Every little whilean innocent passer-by was drawninto its murky depths, never to beseen again. Food for the hungrydevil! So it was when an 11-year-old
boy looking for a stray marble camewithin the tanks evil sway.
Playing with his cousin, a yearyounger, his marble rolled near thewaters edge. No matter. The sharpeyes of youth found and retrievedthe plaything.
But these same eyes also spied a
milk-white lily floating enticingly on the tranquil surface.Hypnotised by the bloom the lad ventures in to retrieve
it. My mum would love it, he thinks wistfully to himself. The youngster reaches for the flower.
As if alive, the sinuous weeds entwine round his legs anddrag him down. The more he fights, the deeper he sinks.
He begins to give up the fight and surrender to his fate.As if in collusion with destiny some nearby Indian
washer-women shake their heads in resignation. The spirit has its victim! Destiny is fulfilled. But hang on,
whats this? The boys cousin, a strong swimmer, is hoving intosight. Diving in he grabs his dear relative (his fathers sisters
son) by the torso. He is soon beingpulled down too. But a sharp crack onthe jaw to combat the flailing limbs andhe drags the stricken boy to safety. Both are now grown men, married
with wives and families of their own(see picture left); fulfilling their truedestinies. But who was the saver and who the
saved? Answers on a postcard, or
